Product Manager Interview

Average Interview

Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at BOLD (San Francisco, CA) in May 2016.

Interview

Applied online via LinkedIn. Recruiter called a couple of weeks later. Had a short phone screen with her to determine fit. She then setup an interview with the team in the San Francisco office pretty quickly. Interviewed with five Product managers in person. Fairly standard PM interview questions. After that the setup an interview with the engineering team in India to discuss technical capabilities. A verbal offer was made a week after the this.

Interview Questions

  • Standard PM behavioral questions and going over my background. Most product questions were eCommerce specific since that's the space the my role is in.   Answer Question

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at BOLD in September 2017.

    Interview

The Recruiter setup a call. During the call, all she was interested was in my visa / work permit status. Despite assurance that I'd a valid work permit, recruiter wanted to "double check" with the immigration lawyer. Never heard back from the recruiter after that initial discussion. If the company wants to hire for certain visa/work permit types , the specifics should be mentioned in the job description and/or clarified over emails - will save everyone's time. ( Maybe they don't since its illegal to do so - not sure about it).

    Interview Questions

    • What's our work autorization status & when does it expire?   Answer Question

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at BOLD (San Francisco, CA) in December 2017.

    Interview

The entire interview process took a month. 1 Recruiter call, 1 telephonic, 1 onsite with 5 PMs.
The questions were all behavioral and situational. Needed a couple of follow ups - first to get a telephonic interview setup and then to get the final result. Though interview panel was interesting to discuss with, felt lack of liveliness in the work floor. The recruiter co-ordinator on the day of interview was very helpful.

    Interview Questions

    • Tell me a scenario where you had to implement something from Ideation to implementation, challenged people (executive, engineers etc) - won/lost it, scenario where you were wrong and some one suggested the right thing.   Answer Question
    • What do you think of our Product. How would you improve our Product. Should we have 4 different brands or all in one combined as a single product and how should we brand it. What would you do if you were to lead BOLD?   Answer Question
    • What is your Favorite Product. If you were the GM, what would you do to monetize it + growth strategies   Answer Question

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at BOLD in January 2017.

    Interview

This was the worst phone screen ever. And I mean it. Did I talk to someone in India? There was this constant echo on the line which was really distracting. The interviewer basically misunderstood every answer I gave like it's her first day on the first job. Overall zero wish to move forward if you employ such people as the first point of contact.
