Technology Summer Analyst Interview

Anonymous Employee in Northampton, England (UK)
Accepted Offer
Positive Experience
Difficult Interview

Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Barclays (Northampton, England (UK)) in December 2017.

Interview

3 step process.

1) Business Insight 1.
This is an online test with different business scenarios and some questions about analyzing data.

2) Business Insight 2 + Online Interview.
Some more questions about the business scenario continuing from Business Insight 1.
The online interview consists of standard interview questions such as "How will your skillset make you suitable for this role?"

3) Interview
A very organized half day of just two interviews. The first interview consists of a scenario and some questions. The second interview is purely strength and competency based. No group activities. Both interviews were 1-to-1.

Interview Questions

  • Tell us what has been your best work achievement to this point in your career. What made this achievement important?   1 Answer
  • Describe a difficult task you were faced with and how you addressed it.   1 Answer
  • Explain why your background and experience would be a good fit for this job.   Answer Question
  • Online Interview, question 3 of 8:

After discussing the specification with the developers, you have reached an agreement on how to best proceed with the app. The developers shared with you what they think is possible from a technical point of view, and what
this means for the functionality of the app.

This means that some features will differ slightly from what you proposed in the original Business Requirements document. You know that the senior business sponsors were very keen on some of these features to be built in the initial format you suggested.

How would you communicate these changes to the business sponsors, to ensure they are satisfied?   Answer Question
  • Online Interview, question 4 of 8:

The senior business sponsors have now confirmed that they are happy with the updated specifications of the app, and the development team have been able to progress with building the application.

During an informal catch-up, Rahul, a Senior Developer on the team, shares that one of the app features is taking longer than expected to complete. This means that the app build may not be completed by the agreed deadline. Rahul expects they will know more accurately when it will be completed once they have progressed further with building the feature, so he doesn't believe that he should raise this issue with the Project Manager yet.

What response would you share with Rahul, and why?   Answer Question
  • Online Interview, question 6 of 8:   1 Answer

I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at Barclays (Pune (India)) in October 2012.

    Interview

Scheduled for an on-campus test. The on-campus test consisted of mental ability and quantitative questions. They were difficult and the time was low. Calculators allowed, but I did not know that. Was at a disadvantage. Was able to finish in time. Shortlisted for a 'hiring center' test. Consisted of two case interviews. Had to present in front of four directors in a team of 6 people. There was a group consensus required. Called for a further 2 interviews the next day. Largely technical and skill based. Had one interview where behavioral questions were asked
