Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Brand KC (Overland Park, KS) in May 2015.

Interview

Their hiring process needs significant improvement. This is a start-up company with very little interviewing experience. Applied on a Tuesday. Got a call on Wednesday. Had an interview scheduled on Friday of that same week. According to the gentleman I spoke with, these people receive training for interviewing, but I didn't observe evidence of that training. Not once did my interviewer look at my resume (except to scribble on it). Or, if he did, he didn't make any mention to my qualifications. In fact, they don't seem to care about the candidate's qualifications. Instead, he tried to sell me on a door-to-door sales position. I'd been listening in their office environment, though. They don't offer their people commission. Just a base pay or salary. So, you don't even "reap the benefits," so to speak. Then, when it was brought to his attention that I hadn't applied for a door-to-door sales position, he tried to change his tune. Tried to sway it like it wasn't what he was saying it was. At the end, he said if they were interested, they'd give me a call for a second interview on the same day that I had just interviewed. I think he could tell I wasn't interested. I was just irritated and ready to get to work to make up for the time my manager spent covering my shift and money lost. I didn't get a call back, and I definitely didn't care. Those sales people probably make less than I earn in my current job. I just want to warn people and to tell people to not expect to be "wowed" by their "interviewing process." If you can call it that? Also, be mindful of their body language. Watch the people who work there and listen. The sales people, I mean. Their receptionist/front desk/HR person was wonderful and very kind, and almost had me hooked on the company. Almost--because I was listening to others. That's the only positive that I can offer about my experience. I'm sure it's a company for some people. But it definitely wasn't for me.

Interview Questions

  • He didn't really ask any relevant interviewing questions. Asked if I was interested in other positions. Then, tried to sell me on a door-to-door sales position.   1 Answer
