    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Cabot Microelectronics (Aurora, IL).

    Interview

The interview process was quite simple. Round-1 was a phone interview with the hiring manager (~30mins). After that, I was called on-site for a panel interview that included 5 interviewers (including the Hiring Manager and HR). I was taken out for lunch by the Hiring Manager; the Director joined in as well. Questions were quite straight forward based on experiences and job fit.

    Research Scientist Interview

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Cabot Microelectronics (Aurora, IL) in January 2017.

    Interview

I was contacted by the HM via email after submitting an application online. The phone interview lasted about 30 minutes, mainly about my resume and a bunch of technical questions. It was followed by a Webex meeting with about five people, where I gave a full presentation (30-40 min) on my past projects. After a month, I was invited for an on-site interview. I was asked to give another full presentation to a room of about 30 scientists. This is the only time so far that I was asked to give TWO full presentations during job applications, and they had to be about different projects. After that was a panel interview, the panel consisted of five people and the interview was divided into two sections: technical and behavioral, each lasted about 45 min. After lunch I was given a site tour by the HM and at last an interview with the director, which was not on the schedule.
The interview process was fine, and generally people were nice to me. I was a bit upset about their decision process though. I followed up with the HR after the interview but never got a response. After two months I finally emailed the HM and got an informal rejection email from him. Thus far I haven't got my travel expense reimbursement, although it was not much money. But after spending so much time and energy on this position, I'd expect at least a little respect from the company.

    Supplier Integration Scientist Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Hillsboro, OR
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Cabot Microelectronics (Hillsboro, OR) in August 2016.

    Interview

Was contacted by the HR to schedule an initial phone interview with the hiring manager which was about 30 mins long where I was asked to describe my work experience. Was scheduled for a next round of phone interview soon after which was a group/panel presentation over the phone. Was given 2 weeks time to work on a STAR based situation based on work experience and create a presentation for about 10 mins. This was hard to co-ordinate over the phone but I was invited onsite after this for meeting the team and a tour of the facility. Onsite interview was very casual and involved meeting the team talking about my experience and how I would fit in and included a 30 min tour of the facility and lunch with the hiring manager. It took them three weeks after the onsite interview to say that they chose a more experienced candidate after constant follow up with the HR.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Cabot Microelectronics (New York, NY) in July 2015.

    Interview

Phone Interview with Team Lead, followed by WebEx with a panel. I was told WebEx would only be sharing screen but it was awkward when they asked to turn on video as I was not prepared to be seen. An experienced employee was very rude. They were looking for a chemist specifically and my materials science background was not fit for the job. So they were very rude and aggressive.
