    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Cerner.

    Interview

First off, I have entry-level experience only so this may not be the same for everyone. Started with a typical HR phone screening, double checking resume info and all that. Then had a remote, Skype-esque 'technical' interview with a current Software Engineer. Question was the Allergy class like everyone else has said. In my opinion, it was a very poorly worded question that gave little to no direction. It was easy enough to understand but what they actually wanted you to give them made little sense without more context. The software Cerner uses for the interview has a notepad type component so you can type into it and the interviewer can see what you are typing. The guy I interviewed with basically just wanted sudo-code and not a complete, working program or anything. Granted, I was also pretty rusty on my technical skills despite a few days of prep and refresh prior.

    Interview

I applied to several positions and got automated rejection messages one by one until a friend that works there emailed HR for me to take a look at my profile. I got a phone interview request soon after and did that, and during they asked me to come in for an interview. They offered to have me attend Experience Cerner Day but I couldn't because of my current job so I just went in for two interviews and a presentation. It was very relaxed and pleasant. I got a job offer two business days later and accepted. All recruiters and staff were really nice and helpful, which made the whole process much easier. However, they won't hold your hand so do your homework and read everything they send you.

    Interview Questions

    • Tell me about a time you struggled to find a solution to an ongoing problem. (STAR method)   Answer Question

    Negotiation

They pay well for an entry level position. Most people will get the same offer. I didn't bother negotiating because it was more than I expected and was happy with it.
