Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at City of Calgary (Calgary, AB (Canada)) in October 2010.

Interview

There are 3 steps, an initial interview of 5 minutes, and then an aptitude test, and then finally a formal interview. The first interview is to evaluate if the person has the basic qualifications, and what are the basic motivations for taking on the job. The aptitude test involves evaluating a number of emergency and non-emergency calls, typing in the details to the emergency and non-emergency authorities and to show proper judgement. If they pass this, they are required to fill out a long form involving past criminal, drug and alcohol history. The final interview is to see if the person has the right mindset by evaluating their past activities in past jobs on how fit they would be in the position. If this is done, the last candidate is then run through a police check, drug tests, and 6 week training period.
