Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Colt Technology Services (Frankfurt am Main (Germany)) in June 2014.

Interview

Unfortunatly I had a rather poor experience with the colt recruiting practice, so please be aware that my feedback is biased by the behaviour of one single person. The process itself was very fast driven and professionally accompanied by HR. After my online application I had a very good telephone interview with the immediate supervisor to the role. I was able to openly adress any questions I might have had about the role and the company. It was really about to get to know each other and see if we could work together. I was very happy and excited when I heard about the next interview which was in the German HQ with the manager of the supervisor who was a C-level exec. I was asked to prepare a presenation explaining how I would adress the job. When I arrived I was welcomed by an HR employee, very friendly and charming, who took me to the interview room where I waited almost 30 minutes before the Interview started, due to a delay of the manager. Within the interview the atmosphere gradually changed into a very offensive tone from the manager leading to a question where he asked the present HR employee if he could ask me how old I am, which the HR employee denied after a felt 60 second silence due to a shock about this unlegal question. We proceeded for a bit longer, but I have to say I was done with the interview by then. After I settled back into my self I thanked them for their time and suggested to stop the interview and safe each others time. After the
c-level exec left the HR employee excused him for his behaviour and said this wouldn't be their usual operation. Well I cannot evaluate this but at least my experience was different. From my understanding the senior level person had a problem with either my age, my gender or a combination of both and he made that quite clear. Also if you check the employee body on linkedIn or else they are a typical white - male - 45+ shop and the behaviour experienced made clear why. Women have mostly assisting duties or typical female associated task like HR and Marketing within the organization. So if you are other than white - male -45+ you might wanna look for a more diversity oriented employer.
