    Business Development Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate
    No Offer
    Negative Experience

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Compass.

    Interview

This review is about how unresponsive and unprofessional the recruiter was. I was contacted by a recruiter who said they would be interested in speaking with me. I gave the recruiter my availability. The recruiter never responded at all, even after I followed up a couple of times.

    Marketing Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Los Angeles, CA

    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6+ months. I interviewed at Compass (Los Angeles, CA) in February 2018.

    Interview

Incredibly unorganized interviewing process. The company is certainly "growing" fast, but I think if a company tries to grow too quickly, people aren't able to keep up with changes, candidates, and emails.

I had applied back in July, never heard back. Months and months later, I get an email regarding my application and their interest in moving me forward. I decided to give it a chance and agreed to the initial phone call. The call was pretty basic, what you would expect. Everything after that just became way too hectic.

Essentially there are multiple recruiters for different regions that they're hiring in, and I don't feel like they're well organized or even communicate with each other. The company wants you to meet with various people within the company that are either your counterparts or higher ups, but you constantly go in a circle. You are asked to complete an assignment on top of that. I did an onsite interview *finally* and even after that, they still wanted me to talk to associate level people who are in their NY office. Those people themselves had no clue what the next steps were and most likely weren't sure why they were interviewing me.

Hadn't heard back almost a month after my on site, with two or three follow ups to the recruiter and the director and manager I met with. No one responded until now. Just received note that they chose to move forward with another candidate. By this point, I had already closed out the company as a viable option and the rejection email feels automated simply because they probably forgot.

Overall, terrible interviewing experience. If you have experience interviewing in general, you know what to expect and how prompt recruiters usually are at updating/getting back to you. Can't say the same at all for this company.

    Marketing Project Manager Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in San Francisco, CA
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Compass (San Francisco, CA) in March 2017.

    Interview

Applied for the position online, and was quickly sent an automated email stating that I didn't meet the qualifications for the position. Then, ~3 days later, I get a call from one of the managers on the team that the team director liked my resume and cover letter, and had a 30 minute chat about my background, my interest in the role, etc. Put me in touch with his counterpart that was actually in the building where the development took place, and had an in-person interview with her (standard job questions - how would I handle certain projects/situtations, etc.) that seemed to go well. She hadn't looked at my resume before the in person, but took notes on a copy I provided to her.

Next, I heard from their Senior Recruiter on the position, who talked to me for about 20 minutes on the role, and more of the process related parts of the job interview. I was due up next to speak with the Senior Director of the whole team, and prepared for that. That was about a 45 minute call, and it went fine. Follow-up was done, and they had me do 2 back-to-back video conference screens with the CFO (who is closely tied to this line of the business) and another senior leader on the operations side that (I believe) comes in to see if the candidate is a good cultural/business fit. Both discussions went OK - very little conversation about how this role will provide benefit (even if I asked questions about it) and more about the organization overall, where the future of New Developments is for Compass etc.

I came in as a candidate without the Real Estate background (which was not a requirement for the role, but apparently was what got me screened out in the first round), and it was articulated that it was a mild concern for the team, but not something insurmountable, and they wanted me to be strongly considered for the role. This hesitation was brought up again and again in the higher round interviews as well.

Ultimately, the Senior Recruiter wrote me a semi-haphazard email (grammatical errors, etc.) that said they were going to pass on my candidacy for the position, and alluded to the fact that it was my lack of real estate experience that was the cause. It was disappointing and unprofessional for them to follow up in this manner, and really capped off a poorly managed job interview process, with a lack of structure and a clear lack of understanding what they wanted from a candidate the whole way through.

    Accounts Payable Coordinator Interview

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Compass in January 2018.

    Interview

The whole process was a very dismissive one. They have HR personnel that can’t perform a phone screen. And seem disinterested or distracted on what you have to say when you answer their questions.
    That tells the entire story.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Compass (San Francisco, CA) in July 2018.

    Interview

This was one of the strangest interviews that I have ever had. A recruiter reached out to schedule an interview. The location where they were having the call with me was extremely loud (assuming open office). Other than "tell me about background" the only question the recruiter kept asking me was if I had questions he could clarify about the company or the role. Of course, I always have some prepared but didn't expect that we would take more than 20 minutes to do that. I sent a thank you note and never received an update from them again. It's been a month...

    Senior Software Engineer Interview

    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Compass (New York, NY) in May 2017.

    Interview

Had phone screen which was a coding exercise. Got most of it right, but not 100% accurate. They set up a second phone screen. Second screening was just a discussion of my experience, no coding.

I came in for a face to face interview. Met with 5 people for various coding and discussions. Over lunch, they gave me a product demo.

Everyone was nice and made me feel comfortable. I actually answered all of their questions adequately, but they still didn't give me an offer. Basically, they are very very picky.

    Senior Software Engineer Interview

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Compass (New York, NY) in June 2018.

    Interview

Two phone screen interviews + on-site interview with four rounds in total.

Super inexperienced interviewers who actually didn't even know how to interact with external candidates and respect them. Not a good way to kick off interviews.

This company lacks diversity and maybe their employees have forgotten how to be humble.
