    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Coupa Software Inc.

    Interview

I applied online and heard back from a sales recruiter quickly. Phone interview with her was easy and went well. Scheduled onsite interview for the next week, which I was flying out for. Two days prior, I received an email asking to push the interview back. I explained I had already purchased my airfare and they apologized for not remembering the circumstances.

Actual interview was basic. interview with current BDR, sales manager, and VP of sales. Said I'd hear back in a few days, a week at the latest. I was completely ghosted. word of advice: if an candidate makes travel arrangements for an onsite interview, at least remember that in the first place and even if you don't hire them, also thank them for going far out of their way.

    Technical Trainer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in San Francisco, CA

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Coupa Software Inc (San Francisco, CA) in July 2019.

    Interview

Applied via Glassdoor and was contacted by a recruiter about a month later. I was set up to talk to one of the other trainers via Zoom video. She asked all of the normal questions you would expect, nothing came up that was not with the realm of my experience as a trainer. However I did gasp when she said the ratio of student to instructor in a class room can be as high as 40 students. Professionally I believe this ratio suggest that instructors are stretched thin. The salary range the recruiter mentioned was on the low end for an experienced and seasoned trainer. After speaking with the first trainer a day passed by and I was originally told I would be speaking to the other trainer. Another day passed by and I was told I was no longer being considered.

    Interview Questions

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Coupa Software Inc (San Mateo, CA) in May 2019.

    Interview

I was contacted by phone shortly after applying online. Quick overview of the company, some basic background questions, standard stuff. Shortly afterwards, the recruiter contacted me and set up two more phone interviews with higher ups in the IT team that featured more technical type questions, but again, nothing out of the ordinary. I was then asked to come onsite for a multi-person round of interviews over the span of a couple of hours. Lots of variety in personnel here so they really kept me on my toes. I really enjoyed the whole process and I liked everyone that I spoke with. I was very quickly offered the job but I declined in favor of a position that I thought suited me better. It was a hard decision to make and I hope I get the opportunity to interview with Coupa again in the future.

    Interview

The interview process was kind of straight forward in a way that it had at least 1 phone call and 1 office visit. The person first contacted me on the phone, then proceeded to ask technical questions. Then I was asked to visit the office for an on-site interview.

    Financial Analyst Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Reno, NV

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Coupa Software Inc (Reno, NV) in March 2019.

    Interview

It was a 3 hour long process: 6, 30 minute interviews. One of the interviewers was very abrasive and rude, he did not wait for me to finish answering his questions before he would interrupt and move onto the next question. At the end of the interview (which was only supposed to go on for 30 minutes but went on for 40), he just got up and left without a formal end to the interview. Not a great experience. Left the building certain I didn't want to work for a company that treated individuals that disrespectfully.

    Senior QA Engineer Interview

    Interview

They are using an online skill course called interview mocha. The coding part of the platform combined with the coding questions were quite irritating. The question asked to read input from a file, which doesn't really work in web shell. They do give you a textbox to enter input but they don't really specify how this works in the coding shell. By the time I figured it out ~10mintues, my time for the quiz was basically half gone making it not worth my time to continue. Additionally this role was for a mobile position, and there were multiple questions regarding Appium but it was quite apparent the person who wrote the test was not very proficient at the framework as there were many questions that were blatantly wrong. It seems the test maker was using more platform specific tests instead of using Appium the way its meant to be.

    Interview Questions

    • Asked questions about different flags and timeouts that no one really uses in Appium. Also asks questions about running test in parallel with ios vs android.   1 Answer

    Senior Account Executive Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Houston, TX
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Coupa Software Inc (Houston, TX) in February 2019.

    Interview

Hiring manager found me on LinkedIn. 14 hours spent on the interview process, 10 separate touches with 5 different people. Calls with recruiter, hiring manager, VE, Presales, RVP, and in person dinner - all said I was a very good fi with no reservations, but was asked to wait until they could run their process to vet other candidates. There was a surprising focus on the personality test as I had a few outlying markers, but the results remain inconclusive given several existing Coupa reps blew out their numbers even with "poor" test results. After several unanswered weekly followups and 1.5 months, finally received a call notifying me that they went with a personal referral from the CRO bypassing several other qualified candidates.

The process was very discouraging given the large time commitment required as an applicant and the lack of responsiveness by both the recruiter and hiring manager regarding the status of my candidacy. Seemed to be a large waste of time on both parties given an apparent independent hiring decision was made from the top irrespective of the others involved in the process.

Coupa touts a flat and upside down org chart, but in practice, it would seems the hiring process has failed to adopt the proposed culture. While I do believe there is a great market opportunity with Coupa, I'd be very careful in investing your time in the hiring process. Ensure you have a personal connection high in the organization and be clear about your expectations regarding your timelines so as to not waste your time. My hope is that my detailed message will eventually translate into tangible change within their hiring process and caution those that may consider applying. Thank you.
