IF you do well on this second phone interview you are asked to schedule and in person interview. This interview takes about 30 minutes, basic questions, brief resume review, etc.

    Interview

Hiring process takes some time. It takes about a month for them to review your application and get back to you. It is a two part process. First, a phone interview with a third party. They ask basic questions and if they like you then the next phase of interviewing begins. Secondly, the in person interview takes places. They ask about challenges you have faced and other basic interview questions.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Delta Air Lines (Atlanta, GA) in June 2013.

    Interview

the interviews are done in a group setting where you are talked to as a group about what to expect from the job. You are expected to bring a lot of documents and a lot of the time is spend processes these documents they are serious about what they ask you to bring so make sure you check the list twice, they will need things like your high school diploma and original birth certificate, application and resume, they will also ask you for all traffic violations on your record for the last 10 years so take the time to pay the $5 or $10 dollars it costs to have your 10 year driving record pulled so that your information is accurate, they will check anyway so be honest, also your job history can not have gaps it at all for 10 solid years so make sure you take the time to remember what you were doing and where you were for the past 10 years such as school, jobs and volunteer programs, so that there isn't a problem in your application process. unfortunately if you are missing documents you will be passed over for the next person so take it seriously and bring exactly what they ask for. They will do a criminal background check including FBI and CIA you will be drug tested and given a physical agility test which is not hard to pass they just want to know that you are physically able to do the job functions like bending over, picking up luggage and the like. remember to smile and ask questions you will be called back one by one to do a face to face interview and they will either offer you the job right away or call and offer you the job if you are selected. Remember not to ask about flight benefits during the interview it is not professional and will probably disqualify you from being chosen. Dress professionally with clean pressed clothes that fit not too tight and not too loose ladies wear your hair back and wear stud earrings do not wear hoops or long dangling earrings closed toe shoes with a modest shoe height or professional flats no stilettos make sure your nails are a natural professional color and not too long and do not wear bright dramatic crazy color lipstick. I wore natural day time makeup and I think that is a good idea they want you to look professional not trendy. For the fellows wear a suit and make sure it is clean and ironed make sure your hair (including facial hair) is neat and clean trimmed/cut no tennis shoes, jeans, or t-shirts

    Interview Questions

    • They called me on the phone first and scheduled a phone interview with me. They called at the scheduled time from a 00 number and asked me about 3 questions. They were
      1. in this job you will be surrounded by people all the time and they will be staring at you will this make you uncomfortable? how would this make you feel
      2. how to do handle stressful situations?
      3. tell me about a time that you had an angry customer and you were unable to solve the problem they were having what did you do? right after I answered the questions she congratulated me and invited me to a face to face interview. When I got to the face to face portion of my interview I was asked
      1. Why do you want to work for Delta?
      2. What can you bring to the company that is unique and sets you apart from all the other applicants?
      3. Tell me about a time that you had a difficult customer to deal with and how you handled it and what you did
      4. they gave me a scenario where there was a Jr. baseball team traveling to play against another team and wanted me to do a mock PA announcement introducing them and wishing them luck in their game
      5. I was asked how I felt about working holidays, weekends, and past my scheduled shift times
      6. I was asked if I was offered a position when could I start work and I said immediately but If you need time to quit another job just let them know
I don't remember what else I was asked it has been a while but I hope this helps. I don't really think there are wrong answers (within reason) they are looking for your mindset and how you handle certain situations just look up the company mission statement and goal also look at their code of conduct and it should be clear what they are looking for. A person who enjoys serving others, a team player (this is a big one) excellent customer service skill positive attitude etc. also note that if you put down that you speak another language, you will be given a second interview in the language that you say that you speak so make sure you know more than a few phrases and that you can actually communicate in the language you say you speak, this may seem like a no brainer but many people fail this portion so be careful you don't want to embarrass yourself and be exposed as a liar. Once you are offered the job you will be given a packet full of papers on the company this will be given to you weeks before your training starts, and in the packet will be a list of city codes at the time I received mine there were about 219 city codes and you will be told to study these codes. This is very important if you do not pass the city code test during training you will be escorted out of the building and no longer considered for employment so take it seriously and memorize those city codes! there were people in my training class that were hired and made it all the way through the training class only to fail the city code exam and were fired before they even began.

    Gate Agent Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Knoxville, TN
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Delta Air Lines (Knoxville, TN) in July 2012.

    Interview

First you take on online test. This requires about 30 minutes of your time. You are immediately informed if you pass the test. If you pass the online test, then you will set up a time for a phone interview. The person who conducts the phone interview is not an employee of Delta - Delta uses an outside company to weed through the applicants via the telephone interview. I was asked to describe a difficult situation on a job and explain how I handled it. If you pass the phone interview you will be told at the end of the call. You will be told to wait for an email or another phone all to set up a face-to-face interview. The time lapse between the phone interview and the face-to-face interview email/phone call is a couple of weeks. When you get to the face-to-face interview you will be taken into a room with two Delta employees. This was where it got awkward because neither of these people had ever interviewed anyone before and they admitted that they didn't know what they were doing. At the end of the interview you are told you will hear from them either way in the next two weeks. I never heard back from them. They were so inept and nervous I actually wonder if they filed my paperwork correctly. It was bad.
