Interviews at Fathom

I interviewed at Fathom in May 2023
went through the intensive interview process at FATHOM, which included: - 1 Hackrrank - 1 Recruiter call - 1 Phone Screen - 4 onsite rounds - 1 Tech Talk (A presentation with a topic of my choice) - 1 round with CEO and 1 round with CTO After doing well on all of these rounds, I got a call where the CEO gave me an offer. The recruiter had mentioned that their typical work day is 10-7 PM and there there would be some form of on-call for a few hours every other Saturday. Also, there was no bonus aside from the total compensation. So, I asked for a base compensation that was 8% higher than what they offered me. A day later, they called and said it was the founders decision to rescind my offer. I understand that not all negotiations work out it is outrageous that they are not even willing to talk about it. This is a tough market and , needless to say, this news felt like a gut punch, especially because I gave three weeks of my life to this process, and excelled at every round. To pull an offer from a candidate you thought was a good fit for the company just because they asked about negotiation is entirely inappropriate. The whole experience took a huge toll on my lot of mental health. So just know what what you are getting into.

I think it's this FATHOM. Didn't apply on LinkedIn, can't remember where. Email didn't include job description. HackerRank, 1 leetcode easy to medium, 1 leetcode medium to hard, 1 http get. 90 minutes.

Had a phone screen with a recruiter first, who was very friendly and helpful. She gave me a brief overview of the company, as well as the interview process. After that, I had a 1hr technical interview with a senior ML engineer, asking some LeetCode medium-hard questions. I didn't do well there and got a rejection letter a few days later.

1. Hackerrank 3 Coding Questions 2. Recruiter Call - Mainly gauge on why you want to join the company and if your fine with working long hours (understandable as its a startup in growth stage) 3. Live Coding Round - Focusing on clearing communication and working code. 4. 1st Day Onsite - 2 coding rounds were conducted similar to (3) and one design round. 5. Feedback from recruiter stating reason for rejection. Positives: Coding rounds were well conducted and were leetcode medium level. Based on feedback from recruiter, had cleared all rounds successfully with clear communication and readable code. Negatives: Very poorly conducted design round with no clear indications as what they wanted to test. Based on feedback received from recruiter, just basis a 30 min single design round, they found me shortcoming. Disheartening to see that after spending over six-seven hours of interview time with them, they make short sighted decisions. Advice: Rather than conducting leetcode style questions invest in making a decently difficult take home test which will test candidates true capabilities. Be clear as to what you desire in design rounds and if that is your primary criteria, conduct multiple rounds on that rather than make ignorant decisions based on a single round.

The interview process was: - Phone screen - Coding interview - Two days of a virtual on-site: - First day was 3 coding interviews - Next day was a "tech talk" and chat with the founders
- Mostly leet code-esque questions. Things like coding merge sort iteratively instead of recursively. Etc.

a recruiter call, followed with 8 rounds of interviews. recruiter call: recruiter will go over details on what to expect about the role. just like other reviews here, you're asked to work from 10am - 7pm upfront. 1 hr phone screen: general leetcode medium, both my brute force and optimal solution compiled and passed test. pass it. then is 2 days interview, recruiter said if you're doing well in day-1, then there is day-2. Day 1 is all technical, 2 45-min coding (still leetcode) 2 45-min design Day 2 is a 30min tech talk (recruiter asked to talk about something will help this company) then 2 round of 30 min co-founder chat. Then ghosted.

I was contacted through a job site and given a hackerrank test. Then I was contacted for a recruiter screen. The next day I was rejected the next day without feedback.
- One question making api calls and sorting the results. One question about finding anagrams One question about dam design that required use of dynamic programming.

I was in my third round which involved a role play, a live writing assessment and a presentation. This was a 2-hour interview which I had spent a lot of time preparing for. I was told I did a great job and was then ghosted by their team. I was given a timeframe in which a decision would be made but I never heard back from them. No feedback, no decision, nothing. This is really an awful and insulting experience especially given that people take their personal time to vigorously prepare.
- What recruitment metrics have you used? Why Fathom Health? What traits/skills should a recruiter possess?

Interview was too rushed. Only 20 minutes. Felt like I was pushed along like cattle. Also at a weird time -- 10:20 to 10:40am? It felt like they were interviewing for throughput (quantity) instead of interview on my unique merits (quality). Nice but not genuine nice. Just formal and a "get through to the end" attitude.
- What's a product that you took from 0 to 1? What's a web portal feature that you designed absolutely from scratch?

Recruiter screen, non-PM stakeholder, then PM people? It didn't make sense at all not to talk to the HM and the recruiting people were terrible and ghosted me. I would don't think this company is going anywhere and would NOT recommend.
- They just asked behavioral questions
