I applied through college or university. The process took a week. I interviewed at

`Five Rings Capital`.Interview

The interviewer spent time describing the company and prompting me for questions about Five Rings, which he would then answer. He also asked some basic C questions, mostly about pointers, and a bit about my experience on previous projects (based on my resume).

Interview

Wow, what a ridiculous interview. Firstly, the lady who interviewed me was definitely not a trader. She seemed to be reading questions off a question sheet and I'm not totally sure she would be able to answer the questions on her own. Interview started off fairly straightforward, how many times do you have to flip a coin to have a greater than 50% chance of getting 2 H in a row? I have a fair coin and a coin that is always H. If i choose one at random and flip it and it gives heads, what is the probability that with another flip I'll get heads again? Skittles come in 4 colors and each bag has between 0-2 skittles in it. How many bag possiblities are there? How many ways can you add 3 non-negative integers so the sum is less than 10? Then the questions got really ridiculous. You're given 15 seconds to answer each question from here, you are given a warning at 10 seconds, and if you don't have an answer after 15 sec your answer doesn't count: number of windows on empire state building; height of tallest manmade structure; number of people that died in 2011 in the US; number of people under the age of 20 in the US; given 300,000 lions in Africa, how many gazelles in Africa?; cube root of 71; integral from 1 to 2 of x^x; number of prime numbers less than 100; 153 * 126; 8^6. Honestly, I understand some of these brain teasers, but requiring an answer in less than 15 seconds is stupid. Do you really want people to work for you that make decisions without fully thinking things through? No wonder monkeys do better than hedge fund managers at making money. The final part of the interview she asked hypothetical questions like "What is a job you would never do for any amount of money?" Then she would follow up by saying "What if I gave you a million dollars a year to do that job?"

The interviewer was very impatient and did not give me anytime to think. She was always rushing me. Her name was Ann or something (definitely an HR person...). The questions were not difficult, but I did not do well because I could not think due to her nagging ness. See below for the five math questions they asked me. They did not really ask any behavioral questions either. Nonetheless, I was disappointed by this firm.

Interview Questions

- 1) How many times do you have to flip a coin such that the probability of getting 2 heads in a row is at least 1/2? answer: 4 2) You have 1 fair coin and 1 coin with 2 heads. Given that the first flip was a heads what is the probability of getting another heads? Answer: 5/6 3) We are sending 1s and 0s. And there is a 10% chance that the wrong number is sent so we send the number 3 times and the opposing party takes the majority of the 3 tries to be the correct message. What is the probability that we send the wrong message? Answer: 0.028 4) How many sets of A,B,C are there such that they are all non-negative integers and A+B+C<10. Answer: 13C3 = 286. Basically you have 3 dividers and 10 balls at first, but if you add a fourth divider such that A+B+C+D=10, then you've basically got a standard balls and bins problem with 10 balls and 4 bins. 1 Answer

I applied through college or university. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at

`Five Rings Capital`.Interview

Applied online through their site and heard back two days later wanting to schedule a call. My interview was basically a phone screen. Pretty technical and detailed for a phone screen, I was caught off guard a bit. The call was about an hour and a half long. Be ready to answer questions quickly, they really don't take time for small talk. There were about 50 questions in total. There were zero fit questions, almost all programming questions

Interview Questions

- Extremely minute details of the C language. Lots of structs, pointers, overloaded while loops where you had to keep track of multiple variables. Also a lot of types and printf statements. Overall not a very good test of any programming ability as the answers were only to be computed using pen and paper. Answer Question

`Five Rings Capital`.Interview

Applied through campus recruiting. Got an email asking to schedule a phone interview a week later. The interviewer was an HR representative who seemed to be reading off a sheet of technical questions. You will not be notified whether you are right or wong before moving on to the next question. There were no fit questions.

Interview Questions

- How many coins would you have to toss such that the probability of getting two heads in total is 50%? If A, B, and C are integers between 1 and 10 (inclusive), how many different combinations of A, B, and C exist such that A<B<C? Consider a set containing the integers between 1 and 10 (inclusive). How many unique subsets exist such that the sum of the elements of the subset is 10? What is the expected number of consecutive heads in a sequence of 3 coin tosses? Answer Question

`Five Rings Capital`in January 2015.Interview

I only made it to the first round. It was a phone screening. The interviewer called about 10 minutes late, omitted an apology and was very quick in giving me the questions and hurried in general. The interview ended abruptly. She was really unnecessarily cold and made the process more unenjoyable than it should be. The questions were rigorous.

I applied from online school career service, and was given a telephone interview. The interviewee chose the slots from online survey. The interviewer asked me a few questions about my resume and then technical questions. The interviewer is expecting a really quick response, so I guess spending more time preparing the technique questions is important.

They just asked a bunch of stat and probability questions. The interviewer was nice enough, but went from one question to another and did not ask any personal questions. In total I was probably asked 5 or 6 questions.
