Rotational Management Program Interview

Average Interview

Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Gap (New York, NY) in September 2019.

Interview

This was by far the worst interview I have ever done. The recruiter was rude during the phone call. She seemed like she had better things to do. She made me reschedule the interview twice and at the start of the phone call she said that this has to be quick and stick to the time frame because she has other people to interview. During the call, I constantly heard background notifications on her end and it was really distracting to the interview. I thought the interview was easy as it was just basic behavioral questions.

    Application

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Gap (Los Angeles, CA) in September 2019.

    Interview

I interviewed on campus one day after my school's career fair. Most of the questions were behavioral and the interview was about 30 minutes. I was not invited to continue on in the interview process, so I emailed the recruiter who interviewed me for feedback, but they never got back to me. I know the second of third round interview includes a presentation that you're given a week to prepare for.

    Interview

Seemed pretty intensive, I met the recruiter at a campus career fair and was asked back the next day for an interview. Mostly asked behavioral questions. The woman I interviewed with was very interested and engaged in our conversation. I was told I would have to complete an online test and if I passed I would get a marketing case to present via phone call interview, and if I passed that I would be flown on site. I did not get another interview.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Gap in August 2018.

    Interview

Submitted resume online, took math test/personality test, the phone interview for 30 minutes.

The interviewer was an alumni of the program who works at GAP and runs a fashion/travel blog. She was late for the phone interview but didn’t apologize or mention it. She asked basic behavioral questions and a business case question. She said she’d get back to me in a week.

A week passed and she sent an email saying I made it to the next round. Then she sent another email that was hastily written, she didn’t even take the time to write my name! That second email said to disregard the previous email stating that I had advanced to the next round. It was a mistake. No apologies from her or any sign of concern or remorse for her mistake.

The recruiter was extremely unprofessional and tardy. I’ve washed my hands of GAP and will never apply again because of their lack of concern for applicants time and their careless behavior.

    Rotational Management Program Interview

Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CA
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ months. I interviewed at Gap (San Francisco, CA) in November 2017.

    Interview

Applied online (found the program through a list of rotational programs online). A few days later I had an online test (math, reasoning, and culture, etc.).
After you pass that test, you set up a phone interview (30 mins, behavioral questions about your resume, leadership, etc. and the classic question of if you had X amount of coats how would you figure out how to distribute them to stores). You will find out at the end of that call if you make it to the next round.
You then make a presentation on a hypothetical new brand for the company, do financial statements, marketing docs, etc. 15 slide deck that will have lots of follow up questions on how you came to these conclusions, etc. (1 week to do the project, they say spend 10ish hours, but I doubled that easily). Find out a week or 2 later if you make the next round.
Fly out to SF for a weekend with 30 other people. A group interview case study with three others that are observed by four people. Also 2 45 min interviews with behavioral questions and your presentation. I was not asked any questions about the retail industry or Gap Inc brands financials and performance. Very hard behavioral questions and questions that make you question how good your project is. Everyone else at the interview is extremely qualified (Ivy League and incredibly well dressed, do not wear suits. Most people wore business casual, but some wore jeans.)
Find out 1-2 weeks later if you are hired.

    Interview Questions

    • Why would someone buy your brand over another Gap brand?
How would you present this project to the CEO in 30 seconds?   Answer Question

    Application

The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Gap.

    Interview

Gap’s recruiting process is extremely lengthy and unnecessary - they start with a really long assessment. Then first round is a phone screen - the lady was very nice for the phone screen. For round two, they make you do a project where you create your own brand. I spent hours on my project but my interviewer did not seem impressed or seemed to care. She was very rude. Last round, which I didn’t get, is assessment day at their headquarters.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Gap (San Francisco, CA) in October 2017.

    Interview

Resume/application, online assessment, phone screen, a branding project (think about many scenarios and possibility and how to fix them), an in-person invitation to SF office, ( which is about 3 weeks after the branding project). They ask all the similar questions so make sure you prep as much as you could. Then the process is well-informed, easy and fun.

    Interview

You apply online, they then send you a 45 min online exam. If successful, will conduct a phone screening. I don't think they take your qualifications into consideration. I was surprised when they rejected me 2 times after the phone interview. I hold a master's degree in fashion, also have extensive experience. I feel they hire internally and the interview process is merely a tasl that needs to be completed by them.
