    Pilot - First Officer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Denver, CO
    No Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Great Lakes Aviation (Denver, CO).

    Interview

Interview process was more intense than I expected. Six page questionnaire, hour interview with the chief pilot and HR, and a simulator flying a DME arc. The sim ride was probably the most difficult, I had to learn an HSI and an RMI flying an extremely touchy sim (new instruments for me in my limited pilot time).

To be honest, I was not impressed. I felt that despite their current situation they wanted to be told that I believed them to be the best airline I could ever conceivably fly with. They have issues with their pilots leaving after the 15 month contract expires, and pilots getting their 1500 hours, but they do no not offer much incentive to stay. There were little things too, such as never receiving a "thank you" to spending my own money and time to fly out there to Denver.

Other pilots I have talked to have said that you can get a high amount of time in old-school airplane, but that's about it. Just depends on what you want. It wasn't for me, and I'm glad that I received a no from them so I can feel more comfortable as a pilot first.

    Interview

After submitting an application and waiting months I was called in for an interview. You interview once with a set of questions and then you wait to see if you make the cut.

    Interview Questions

    • All interview questions were a general set of questions you could look up. None of them were very specific to the field of mechanics.   1 Answer

    Aircraft Dispatcher Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate
    Declined Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Great Lakes Aviation.

    Interview

Do not apply for this company unless you live locally. They will not fly you out for the interview, but expect you to appear in person. They do not offer any other means to interview out-of-state applicants, such as, phone or skype interviewing. Not worth the effort of paying almost two grand to fly for an interview when you may, or may not get the job.... Very unprofessional.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Great Lakes Aviation (Cheyenne, WY) in January 2011.

    Interview

Very unorganized. Manager called for me to "come in" and talk. Hung up and never told me when. Called me back later and set a date. Showed up on the date and manager was not there. Agents said she was out sick. Never received an email or phone call. Manger called later apologizing, setting another date. Came in and interview was just a conversation about my life and what I liked to due for fun. Very little was asked about my prior experience or skills. Was not informed that I was hired. Just kept getting told to come in and fill in more paperwork every other 2 weeks. Two months later she said I was going in for training. That's when I "realized" I got the job.

    Interview Questions

    Negotiation

Technically did not officially get offered a job. More like, I was thrown in to the job.
