    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Guardsmark.

    Interview

After 7 months of intense face-to-face and phone interviews....11 interviews, one drug test, one lie-detector test...they put a hiring freeze into effect. Interviewed with two hiring managers, all of the owners of the company (via phone) and constant calls for interviews with no notice...the job was put on hold.

    Interview Questions

    • Many tests and questions from managers and staff doctors.   Answer Question

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Guardsmark in July 2014.

    Interview

The interview is ridiculous. I wish I had read reviews here on Glassdoor before showing myself at the first interview. Apparently they liked what they saw so I was invited for a second interview. What a disappointment . 567 questionnaire and some of the most intrusive questions about my life. I hate the company before I even start working.

    Interview Questions

    • Asking me to provide a list of prescription medications I take is not acceptable.   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

I will not subject myself to a company that I intuitively suspect is abusive and unfair in its operations. I can find better employment elsewhere.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Guardsmark (Memphis, TN).

    Interview

Walked in originally and then called. Continued to follow up with them and received an additional 38 page application. Submitted it, then went in for two "interviews." They were both complete waste of times. From my detailed explanation below, you will see how I was treated unfairly and never considered for the job.

    Security Guard Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Fort Lauderdale, FL

    Neutral Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Guardsmark (Fort Lauderdale, FL) in September 2013.

    Interview

Application process is something serious I'll say that much, I'm used to taking a drug test pre employment but they have a pretty outrageous process overall. poly graph, a reference method that requires your references to fill out paper work, 600 question psych test etc. on top of the 35-40 page application. Personally by the time I realized how much non sense was needed to be completed I lost interest 100% 10 dollars an hour just didn't seem fit.

    Interview Questions

    • psych test questions regarding sex life. In my opinion that's personal and I shouldn't be required to answer those types of questions. They have nothing to do with working security or one's mental stability, and I'm not applying for porn.   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

After a lot of research on the company, I feel it's not for everyone. Taking a weekend to think it over, I came to the conclusion that I'd rather keep looking for a better fit opportunity. Just my opinion though, could be the perfect fit for many.

    Staff Writer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Memphis, TN
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Guardsmark (Memphis, TN) in January 2010.

    Interview

Went thru an extensive hiring process for a job at their corporate offices in Memphis. I spent a lot of time and money (parking, proper attire as I heard that women can only wear skirts!!!) in hopes of getting the job. I was told about 3 weeks into the process (after I called numerous times for an update) that they decided to hire internally- maybe. They will for sure let me know by the end of the week. They never called. It is a slap in the face to the unemployed to be treated this way. Because of the disrespect I was shown after all the hoops I went thru, I will never apply to this company again. The lie detector tests and extensive personality tests for a staff position are a little ridiculous also.

    Manager Interview

    Anonymous Employee in Washington, DC

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Guardsmark (Washington, DC) in January 2008.

    Interview

Guardsmark has a slow and thorough process. Several levels of review are required to secure the job and there is very little communication in between time. Local management may like a candidate but lack the authority to execute on the hire which can be frustrating. But after enough time things eventually roll around. Make sure your background is squeaky clean. The drug test is no job, there can be no gaps in your employment and every reference and previous employer will be contacted...not too mention the MMPI.

    Security Officer Interview Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Norfolk, VA

    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Guardsmark (Norfolk, VA) in November 2014.

    Interview

Very intrusive process. I have reviewed the process about this company before, but I wanted to revise it in light of experiences I have had since my interview with this company in 2014.I have recently been hired for a judicial counseling position within my city working with law enforcement and inmates a detention center and will be occasionally subpoenaed to testify in court . The vetting process for this job was less intrusive than the interview I had with Guardsmark. I did have to do a polygraph , but again, it was less intrusive than the 560+ questionnaire that Guardsmark subjected potential employees to and a more practical process. But then again, I was applying for a job that deals with real threats and issues. Run ,do not walk , from security companies that ask for personal information regarding your medications, family medical issues and what prescriptions they are taking, or psychological evaluations that has nothing to do with the type off job you are performing for a low level security company. Since earning my degree, my opportunities opened to for being hired for higher caliber positions than a mere $10.00 an hour position where the company feels they have to vet people like the way Guardsmark does and is not efficient with it. The process I have been through recently after being hired for my new position allows me to apply within any law enforcement capacity, including the FBI, and the process, again stated to make it perfectly clear, is less intrusive with its vetting process than Guardsmark. Its not really a difficult interview process, just an unnecessary one and inefficient .
