How did you communicate with a person who is hard to deal

The first thing I would do it state the reason for the conversation, being sure to neutralize the perceptive, removing any blame, state the facts in the situation and ask for their view of the issues. I would then outline the management goals and ask if there were any obstacles to achieving these goals and how could I help then overcome them.
