Typically the interviewer is looking for an answer related to customer service, as customer service is the primary means by which most retail stores combat theft.

I would question their suspicious activity and would contact the manager if not the police if the situation escalates.

I would give excellent customer service and constantly ask if they found everything okay and if they need help with anything
