I usually follow 4 steps that I have carried with me my entire working career. L.A.S.T.
Listen to the guest, Apologize for the situation that caused the discrepancy, Solve the problem with a solution that would benefit the guest's experience without negatively impacting the company, and then finally Thank the guest for the opportunity to solve the issue accordingly and for choosing to come to your location out of the countless other options they had to could've chose from.
