Lighting Specialist (Sales Associate?) Interview

Easy Interview

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at IKEA (Burbank, CA) in June 2012.

I had applied for a lighting specialist position and after about 2 weeks I got an email saying that I wasn't being considered at the time, BUT 2 days later I received a phone call from the lighting department manager asking if I was still interested in the position, to which I was extremely excited and surprised about lol. I went in and filled out another application. After that I went in for an interview, It was the manager and what I assumed was his associate or another manager, both of them were EXTREMELY polite, It really made me feel at ease through the entire interview.

Basic questions consisted of "What do you know about our company (IKEA)" and other past work questions, how would you deal with x, how have you helped with x, what was the outcome of x, I got a call exactly a week later, went in for the drug test, and got the job!

Interview Questions

  • What do you know about the company?   1 Answer
  • Explain a situation where "X' (x being: disappointed a customer, made a customer happy, had to make a tough decision, etc.)   Answer Question

Advice I would give others.... DO YOUR RESEARCH! I woke up that morning and my girlfriend told me "you should do some research about the company" My initial thought was, what's there to know? they sell furniture, I ended up doing some research, and it was the FIRST question they asked me, I can honestly say that if I answered "you guys sell furniture?" when they asked me what I knew about the company, I would be sitting here upset at myself today for not getting the job over not doing a few minutes of research. Also, be calm, the two people I interviewed with were extremely nice, which put me at ease, I'm sure all the other managers might be the same, but always be prepared, don't go in thinking "I have this" or "I failed this" doing so could either make you overconfident, or underwhelming and unforgettable, also try to interact with them! if they allow it have some fun with it, make yourself unforgettable.
