If this rubics cube were made of sugar cubes and all of the

  cubes on the outside got wet and I had to get rid of them, how many sugar cubes would be left?

1 is the answer. I was then asked if it were 10 by 10 by 10 what the answer would be.

Actually, have you ever taken a Rubik's cube apart? There is nothing in the middle. All of the blocks are on the outside. There is some engineering in the middle that holds them together but there isn't a block on the inside. So the answer is zero. That is not what the interviewer was looking for but that is the correct answer. Also, just to be complete, it is the Rubik's cube. The Rubik’s Cube was invented in 1974 by Erno Rubik. It is his cube, hence the possessive.
