I'm 80?! The question isn't odd, it's the choice of age that's odd, considering those children would likely be in their 50s. K, I'd tell'em I'm having a great time spending their inheritance. And to take care of their mother.

That's a fairly sneaky way to get someone to reveal their age (which is illegal). I've been conducting interviews where a question that requires someone to assume a different age or having children elicits an almost instinctual response to either state their age or the ages of their children which can give the interviewer a pretty good idea of one's age.

They are assuming you have children so I'd ask them why the think I'm a parent.

I'd tell them NOT to go to work for McKinsey --- which is what I would have told them when I was 30, 40, 50, 60, or 70 --- or anyplace in-between.

It's a trap. They want to know if you plan to have kids so they have an excuse to not hire you. This may be used to target women who have families.
