Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Insight Strategy Advisors (New York, NY).

Interview

I was contacted approximately one week after submitting my cover letter/resume and invited for a first round interview. The first round was 60 minutes over the phone with a consultant and involved primarily fit and background questions. I was contacted several days later and invited for a second-round phone interview. The second round was 60 minutes over the phone with a director and involved a mix of fit, background and informal case-style questions. The final round interview was in-person at the ISA office and took approximately 6 hours, during which time I met with analyst, consultant, VP and partner-level team members. The interview questions were a mix of fit and case-style questions (about 3 short cases).

The whole interview process took approximately three weeks.

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Insight Strategy Advisors (New York, NY) in October 2011.

    Interview

Great boutique firm, super smart people. Hard interview process - crazy quant test that involved pertinent data but where there were no expectations, only the opt to impress. Case study is classic qual case but about disease areas. Whole process was smooth - met with 5 people first day & was brought back for second round of in-persons w mgmt team. Received prompt offer after that.

    Interview Questions

    • Case was presented from the perspective of pharma manufacturers - there was no one pivotal question, only hypothetical situations about a drug launch and the interviewer asked me to make a series of recommendations... Know how drugs are launched!   Answer Question
    • Quant test was working with data - SQL, Excel or Access. If you put any of those on your resume, they'll test what you know in them as a litmus test for what your skill level is at. They said beginner is ok but be prepared to field tech questions. Super unique.   1 Answer

    Negotiation

Fair - starting salary above all other offers w/o negotiations.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3+ weeks. I interviewed at Insight Strategy Advisors (New York, NY) in August 2014.

    Interview

The entire interview process lasted just under a month- I went through a recruiter. The interview process consisted of a first round phone interview followed by three second round phone interviews, one of which was conducted over skype. Two of the second round interviews included case questions based on current projects. The third round of interviews were extensive and included meetings with the partners and engagement managers and included another case. By the end of the interview process you have met about half of the firm which is nice. The interview process was rigorous but ISA cares deeply about cultural fit in addition to industry knowledge and consulting skills so the rigor is understandable.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Insight Strategy Advisors (New York, NY) in September 2014.

    Interview

Just as a heads up, the interview process is tedious, but everyone is really nice and supportive throughout it. Four interview rounds plus the additional questions for the application seemed a bit excessive. The first is a phone fit interview for about 30 minutes. The second round is a presentation assignment you need to complete and email back to them. The third is a fit/case phone interview for a hour. The final round was in office and was over 7 hours where I met with 7 different people 1 on 1.

The length is definitely the most draining component of the final interview (possibly an indirect stress test?). Besides how many interview rounds there are, almost all of the people there were great and the interviews always felt like they went by quickly. The company seems like an enjoyable place to work, everyone was very friendly and personable. The 3 cases I did were all of average difficulty. They weren't necessarily looking for you to "crack the case," it was a lot more constantly changing variables and asking how it would change your recommendation. The final meetings were with the heads of the firm, both were friendly and easy to get along with. It seems like the beginning of the day was more focused on confirming you're smart/talented and later in the day making sure you would fit well with the culture.

Read as much as you can about the areas they work in (can't overstate this enough) and also be aware of the current big pharma events.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Insight Strategy Advisors (New York, NY) in September 2015.

    Interview

I met one of their consultants at a career fair and submitted an online resume. I then proceeded through a first round "fit" interview, then a second round interview where I had 48 hours to build a deck of 5 PowerPoint slides based on one of four healthcare consulting related topics given to me. After passing that round I had an ~60 min interview by phone that included a case as well as several behavioral questions. I was then invited for an in person interview in their NYC office where I interviewed with 2 consultants, 1 analyst, and a Vice President. The in office interview took ~4 hours with each interview lasting one hour. 1 of the interviews with a consultant included an informal case, and the Vice-President also asked a few informal case related questions, wanting to evaluate my thought process. After the in person interview I had a 30-45 minute interview over the phone with the CEO. Overall the entire process took about 8 weeks. During the interview process ISA repeatedly emphasized their culture and how fit was so important to their firm. I interviewed at several consulting firms, and every one said they emphasized culture, but the feel at ISA was very different than other firms. They are a small firm (~30 people total employees) and they really don't want to bring in people who they feel will cause friction or disrupt the collaborative spirit they have to worked hard to establish. There were a few negative reviews about ISA from several years before and I specifically asked employees about these negative reviews, whether or not they felt they were accurate, and what ISA had/has done to improve communication between senior management and their more junior team over the past several years. Everyone at the firm openly admitted that several years ago they didn't put as much emphasis on employee development and culture as they should have and they have worked hard to make improvements. Everything I saw and heard convinced me that this was the type of firm that I would love to work at.

    Interview

one fit phone interview, a slide assignment, and case interviews. a lot of work!!! to not be considered for candidacy. I would warn people. A lot of time waste. And company doesn’t feel the same need to put work into its value proposition as an employer.
