Software Engineer(Internship) Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Tallahassee, FL

Positive Experience
Difficult Interview

Application

I applied through college or university. The process took a week. I interviewed at J.P. Morgan (Tallahassee, FL) in January 2017.

Interview

The interview was split into half technical and half behavioral questions with two different employees. Technical Guru administered technical part, manager administered behavioral. Very comfortable setting with nice people. Strict GPA minimum requirement. HR requests a copy of your transcript to verify that you meet the criteria.

Interview Questions

  • Describe polymorphism? Tell me about a time that you failed. Tell me about yourself.   Answer Question

    Interview

It's a pretty slow process. After applying in September, I didn't get a follow-up email until late October, which was just a digital interview where you record yourself. Still waiting for a response for that.

I applied through other source. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at J.P. Morgan (Kansas City, MO) in November 2017.

    Interview

It included one technical question and a couple behavioral questions split up by two different people. The process took a long time compared to others but overall it was simple and the recruiters were extremely helpful along the way. The recruiters at the conference where I met them were super insightful to how the interview would be set up and really friendly. It was an amazing experience.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at J.P. Morgan (New York, NY) in September 2018.

    Interview

Was sent a hackerrank coding challenge which was pretty easy compared to most other companies. I passed the challenge with flying colors and was selected to move on to the next round.

They wanted me to participate in a 24 hour hackathon where I would have had to travel and spend a full 24 waking hours coding for their cause. As a student with obligations this was not feasible, especially for an interview so I declined.

I was supposed to move forward in the process and was promised a phone screen. A couple weeks go by and nothing. I emailed the recruiter and was told that she "forgot" to email me back and that I was to expect a confirmation for the phone screen shortly.

Ghosted. I suspect it's because I didn't attend their 24 hour coding event.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at J.P. Morgan in October 2018.

    Interview

I applied online and got a HireVue interview, which contained 2 coding questions and 2 video responses. The HireVue questions were pretty easy-- very straightforward.

After completing the HireVue, I was invited for an on-campus interview. It was two 30 minutes interviews (technical and behavioral). The interviewers were very nice and chill. They were the best interviewers I ever met. There weren't any hard technical questions, and it seems like the interviewer just wanted to know if I have a basic CS knowledge. And the most of the questions that the technical interviewer asked me didn't have a single right answer-- I think, in general, he just wanted see how much I am passionate about technology.

I think the behavioral questions were more tricky than the technical questions.
