Software Developer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Jersey City, NJ
No Offer
Negative Experience
Average Interview

Application

I applied online. I interviewed at J.P. Morgan (Jersey City, NJ) in July 2017.

Interview

2 round including face to face. I did very well in the Face to face with the hiring manager. But after that there suppose to be one more round with the Team Lead in same day. But he left the office even though we schedule the interview a week ago. So they schedule one more technical phone interview with the Team lead. It also went very well. Except one issue is that i dont have working experience on automation. Even though i gave answer to most of the question beside this frame work. This is a software developement role and they don't have separate team for automation testing. I told them from the beginning that i dont know automation, i didnt get a chance to work on this framework yet. So my question is even though i didnt mention this in my resume and clearly state that during the initial round why they drag me all the way there and take 2 back to back interviews. Because at the end its seems like the only issue for them. Also that team lead seems to me doesn't have much knowledge on core java and J2EE. Seems like he is reading the question from internet. Also that i have experience on core java , J2EE , Junit and other frame work the team lead should know that i can able to manage / learn automation framework as well. They just wast my time and effort. I took a half day leave (without pay) from my current work place for face to face.

A few he ask me to do a video interview through Hirevue. Next he notified me on a recruiting event a couple of weeks away. Next I was contacted by a local VP of Technology recruiting and she set me up with the date and time of the interview and asked me a few general questions. For the in-person interview, I met with two more people separately and they asked me some questions from a questionnaire they had. The in-person lasted about an hour and a half.

    Interview

I scheduled an in person interview in the manhattan office and the appointment scheduler called me to reshedule 3 times. I was walking toward the building for the interview and she called to reschedule again because the interviewer was offsite but I went anyways and he was there. They did not seem interested in hiring anyone. The questions they asked were vague programming questions and it was not clear what they were asking for. He mentioned that the majority of the team is in india.

    Interview

I submitted my resume through school and was granted two back to back 30 minute interviews on campus. The interviewers were very nice. There were many general questions about working with people, what technology stack I am familiar with, what I hope to learn while interning. We talked about their environment and culture. We talked about what classes at school are particularly helpful. I wrote below that I did not receive an offer, but the interview was recent, so actually no decision was made yet.
