Application

The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Kaplan in June 2009.

Interview

First an audition, in which you do a 5 minute presentation on a How-To subject. They evaluate you to see if you can actually teach a class. If you pass that, then an interview. Normal one-on-one interview with the hiring manager. If you pass that then you're, and the training (paid) begins. You have to pass the training too in order to actually teach.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Kaplan (New York, NY) in June 2008.

    Interview

The Kaplan interview (or audition, as they like to call it) is straightforward. I had to teach a class of ten other candidates a five minute lesson on any subject. Kaplan just wants to see if you can teach and wants to make sure they're not hiring any loose cannons (i.e. no racial/sexual/etc jokes). Most of the candidates are accepted into their paid training program (meets once a week for around five weeks). If your standardized test scores are below the 90th percentile or out of date, you will be required to sit one of Kaplan's practice exams and get an acceptable score.
