Application

I applied through other source. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Lopez McHugh (Philadelphia, PA) in June 2011.

Interview

The firm claimed they were interviewing me for a marketing copywriter and SEO position, and both the second and third in-person interviews focused on my marketing background and writing skills. The third "interview" was via phone call. Suddenly the focus of the interviewing process changed from asking me about my marketing and writing skills to interrogating me about my experience handling angry customers on the phone. I told the interviewer that I hadn't had much experience in this area--after all, I wasn't led to believe I needed it before this point--and he pressed me to give him a specific, detailed example of a situation where I had an angry customer on the phone, what they were angry about, and how it was resolved. He seemed perturbed when I could not give him an answer. Then, about two weeks later, I got a call from one of their other locations--this one very far from my home--asking me to come in for yet another interview. When I asked the caller what I was being interviewed for, she said she didn't know, she was just told to call me. I told her that this new office was too far from my home and I was not interested in commuting that far. She got outright belligerent with me, insisting that it wasn't that far of a drive (it was nearly 40 miles one way, on toll roads). I ended the conversation, then contacted my original interviewer by email and told him to never contact me again. Beware of this firm!
