Software Developer Interview

Easy Interview

Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MINDBODY (San Luis Obispo, CA) in March 2015.

Interview

1. Phone Call from recruiter
2. 2 hour test using hackerrank.com
3. 1.5 hour interview with three Software Engineering Managers

The questions from the recruiter phone call were re-addressed with the Managers interview

I was never explained what job/jobs they were filling. I got the impression they were looking for some front end developers and maybe others, but they never told me what they were really looking for. That made the interviews really frustrating for me because it's hard to show interest in a job when you don't know what it is.

Interview Questions

  • What do you do well?   Answer Question
  • If I asked somebody you work with what you do poorly, what would it be? (I've never thought that its helpful to ask somebody what they are bad at. Some will tell you, and some will lie and it's not fair to compare the two different people)   Answer Question
  • In what environment do you thrive.   Answer Question
  • (Programming question) I was given a sentence and I had to write code in front of the software managers that would flip the words around   Answer Question
  • I had two other very simple programming questions, that I can't remember.   Answer Question

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at MINDBODY (San Luis Obispo, CA) in August 2013.

    Interview

The process started with email, then moved on to a Skype interview with a few programming questions. Standard iteration through lists, etc. The process then moved on to a homework problem, that included utilizing the companies API to complete a specific task. There was then another Skype interview. Then finally an in person interview that was more of a culture check than an actual interview.

    Interview Questions

    • Nothing was that difficult or unexpected. I had been interviewing with other tech companies and the interviews were pretty standard in comparison.   Answer Question
