Interview

Very well structured. All interviewers were very friendly and helped when I was going on a different direction. Cases were different in topic and in difficulty. 1st round interviews were more quantitative and 2nd round ones more qualitative (but I think that's not always the case). I didn't have much time for questions at the end.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company.

    Interview

The process was very quick but this could be due to the fact that the firm was recruiting specifically from my business school. There were clear deadlines to submit your application and then they quickly came back with an interview invite. I put down three cities in order of preference and I was invited to interview for my 2nd preference city.

    Interview Questions

    • It was a question about the industry I had a strong background in and the interviewer asked me how I see the industry changing in the future.   Answer Question

    Application

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company (Paris (France)) in October 2015.

    Interview

I went through the first round of interviews in my MBA's campus and then final round in the local office where I was applying. The first round (2 1hour interviews with cases) was challenging but overall it was a fun and helpful experience. Final round took many hours, 4 interviews and two written tests (written tests are not common in McKinsey final rounds, it was just the case at that specific office)

    Interview Questions

    • Fit questions were very specific and detailed. The most common theme was leadership experience and personal impact.   Answer Question

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company (Johannesburg (South Africa)) in March 2013.

    Interview

Was very structured, although didn't quite follow the models online. I had used Victor Cheng's tutorial to prepare but I found that none of the structures worked for the questions worked and had to think fast on my feet.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company.

    Interview

I had never considered a career in consulting until I was invited by McKinsey to apply for their recruiting process in Brazil, and I must say I regret having decided to participate. The interview was not particularly difficult content-wise and seemed to be designed to determine whether a candidate fits into a certain mold rather than assessing linear/logical thinking, creativity, and other relevant skill sets. My interviewer was at times aloof and at times confrontational, missed key pieces of information (e.g. misstating "profits" for "revenues"), checked her phone constantly, took a call mid-answer (which obviously threw me off, as I had to stop in my tracks and restart from the top), and even failed to display the common courtesy of saying goodbye when we were done. Time management was also quite poor (2:30 for 2 interviews, which I don't believe to be the firm's standard and made the process unnecessarily wearisome). All in all, a quite disrespectful stance, which left me with a rather poor impression of McKinsey.

    Interview Questions

    • "Describe a situation in which you showed leadership" (the same question was asked by both interviewers; the redundancy suggested a lack of coordination).   Answer Question
