    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6+ weeks. I interviewed at Mu Sigma (San Jose, CA) in September 2012.

    Interview

Submitted resume online then asked one of the employees to refer me. Got a call from the HR , who interviewed me for about 30 minutes. Then he set up a face-to-face interview with senior manager at one of the client locations. Interview started with tell me about yourself, then my internship experience, then a business case and then the puzzle. Lasted for overall 1 hour.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Mu Sigma (Chicago, IL) in June 2012.

    Interview

There was one phone round first which was all case based. I was asked questions such as calculate toll Illinois collects in one day. How much milk is sold in America everyday? After clearing this round there was a face to face round which was very general behavior questions. The third round was again face to face and very technical, all case based. I think they just wanted to intimidate me and make me feel uncomfortable. They gave me a white board and asked me to do all kind of calculations there.

I applied online. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at Mu Sigma (Chicago, IL) in April 2009.

    Interview

Had a case interview. The interviewer shared a case and asked me to share a 3 slider in a day's time. There were 2 people who interviewed me and 1 of them was a director. Entire process took 1-2 weeks and offer was made right away. I took time to understand the company, work and spoke to folks who were in my position.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took a week. I interviewed at Mu Sigma (Chicago, IL) in October 2014.

    Interview

I applied through on campus recruiting. I submitted a resume, took an online aptitude test, and moved on to an in-person interview. The interview consisted of a behavioral portion and a case/brainteaser section. It was a fun interview. I enjoyed it.

    Interview Questions

    • I was given a case question that was entirely hypothetical -- the interviewer made it up on the spot. I was a little taken aback at not having actual data to work with.   Answer Question

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Mu Sigma in December 2011.

    Interview

Referred through a friend of mine. The HR people sit out of India, so they dont know when to call you. I got calls late in the night to discuss about my application :) Other than that it was a good overall. I had 5 rounds of interviews. 3 over phone, 2 1:1 meetings. One of them in a coffee shop and the other was a lunch, both with senior management team. They are pretty chilled out.

    Interview Questions

    • Standard case interview questions. Read case in point book
      1. Drilled into my resume. They asked me a lot of questions about how I went about a project that I mentioned in my resume
      2. How would you go about quantifying the success of a mail campaign for a large credit card company?
      3. How do you go about understanding what needs to be on the aisles for improving sales for a retail company? - These questions were more a test to see how I was thinking. We never really got to numbers.
      4. What do you know about Mu Sigma?

In general they like people who ask them a lot of questions about Mu Sigma. So if you are applying read up a lot about them. They have a ton of press recently. They are happy to talk about their company   Answer Question

    Interview

Was long and complicated included a few math tests and you had to solve some general mind game problems. Shouldn't be too hard but at the same time many do not get hired for some unknown reason.

    Interview

I had two rounds of interviews. One was on the phone, the other in person. The entire process took about 4 weeks. After the two interviews, there was also a written assignment (video synthesis), where I had to use information presented in a video to answer questions.

    Interview Questions

    • Here are some of the questions.

      1. A company has 10 machines that produce gold coins. One of the machines is producing coins that are a gram light. How do you tell which machine is making the defective coins with only one weighing?

      2. Another one was the classic river crossing puzzle. Four people need to cross a river, and they take 1, 2, 5, and 10 minutes. They have only one torch and need the torch to cross the river. What is the minimum time to get all of them across to the other side?

      3. You have two hourglasses. The first one times exactly 7 minutes; the other times exactly 11 minutes. Using just these two hourglasses and nothing else, how would you accurately time 15 minutes?

There were a few questions on SQL, mainly asking to explain joins and give examples. Also a few questions on basic concepts of regression.   2 Answers

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Mu Sigma.

    Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter and an initial phone screen was scheduled within a day of my response. Basic review of resume and skills. As part of round 1 there is also a "video synthesis" which consisted of the CEO speaking about Mu Sigma's values and competencies. I had 30 minutes to write down the main points, 20 minutes of which was presentation. The CEO said that Mu Sigma is a combination of Google and McKinsey (I'll allow the reader to find the humor in that). The second phone interview was with an engagement manager and lasted about an hour. A challenging and informative interview - asked specific questions about my thought process in conjunction with SAS/R/Python. Both individuals with whom I spoke with were very formal and respectful. I didn't hear back for over a month (the only negative) and had already accepted a stronger offer during the interim. The entire process was about 6-7 weeks.

    Interview

The process took two months. I applied through my University. Completed an online placement test, then had and hour long interview with a manager. Lots of situational and brain teasers. I would suggest re-watching the video from the assessment test, I got questions about it. Lots of questions about technology and applied math.
