I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at M·A·C Cosmetics (Toronto, ON) in Sep 2010
Interview
The manager interviewed me and he asked why I wanted to work at MAC and why I thought I was a good fit. He was wearing jeans and was interviewing me in a tiny room that looked like a closet, the makeup artists there are told to wear all black so I thought it was weird.
Need to show that you can do makeup, one of the interviews will be set up for that. I talked to a store manager and a 3rd key before talking to their regional manager.
You had to bring a makeup portfolio of your work as a makeup artist. Then get a phone interview. Then a in person interview. It was clear the job had nothing to do with makeup artistry like I thought and it was all about sales. You are under an immense amount of pressure to meet a sales quota each month. And you will be fighting your coworkers for sales. I did not want to have to worry about losing my job each month… I ended up starting my own makeup business and make six figures now! Really glad I didn’t get that job at Mac lol
