      I interviewed at Neon One

      Interview

TL;DR: Neon One’s recruiting process felt unprofessional and disorganized, with last-minute changes, a late and disengaged recruiter, and a rushed, impersonal interview. It left a poor impression. I applied online and received an email from Neon One’s HR system the following day. It contained a generic message and a link to schedule a "30-minute phone call" with a recruiter. I scheduled the call and received a calendar invite with the recruiter’s name. Unfortunately, my experience went downhill from there. A few hours before the scheduled call, I received an updated calendar invite rescheduling the meeting to two days later. No one reached out to confirm if I was available at the new time or to apologize for the change—it was simply rescheduled. On the day of the rescheduled call, 15 minutes before the meeting, the calendar event was updated to include a Google Meet link, again without any accompanying message. This last-minute update left me scrambling to ensure I was camera-ready, only to find out when the interview eventually started it would be audio-only. When I joined, on time, no one was there. After 5 minutes of no one showing up, I sent a polite email asking if now was still a good time to meet. Within 2 minutes of send the email, the recruiter finally joined and offered a half-hearted apology. Her tone throughout the conversation made it clear she didn’t want to be there. She immediately started with a rushed and poorly communicated overview of the company and their benefits (health, PTO, etc.), but provided no details about the role itself. Without asking if I had any questions, she jumped straight into asking me for an overview of my background. Despite my thorough responses, she had no follow-up questions or comments. She then moved on to a series of generic expertise and behavioral questions, which she appeared to be reading verbatim from a script. It was clear she didn’t fully understand the context of her questions or my answers, and she provided no feedback or engagement. This was, by far, the worst recruiter screening call I’ve ever experienced. The recruiter came across as rude, unprepared, and disengaged. A day later, I received an automated email informing me I would not be moving forward. While I’m fine with not progressing, the process itself left a very poor impression of Neon One as a company. Advice to Neon One: Consider reevaluating your recruitment process. Either find a new recruiter or invest in proper training to improve their professionalism and engagement. A candidate’s first impression of your company often starts with the recruiter, and this experience was highly unprofessional and off-putting.

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted within a week for an hour-long interview, which (I thought) went well. I was told that the next step would be to meet the team and that interview would be scheduled sometime the following week. Never heard from the company again, even after 2 follow-ups. Very disappointing.
