Once you've delegated a task to a team member, how/when do

  you follow up? How do you know they need help?

This is the answer she mocked: It's all dependent on the person and the project but first I would keep an eye on their body language and look out for anything that shows stress or worry (forehead on hands, fidgeting, etc). This will typically tell you if they're having a bad time before they verbally say it to you. If I see some "worrying" body language, I'll go over and ask how it's going and if I can do anything to help. The interviewer fake-pulled out some hair and said "Aaaagh! Worrying body language!" Then calmer, "No, but I do see how that's a valid point."
