    Interview

Online Application with a phone/skype interview a few months later. Peace Corps firsts screens you for a certain placement and you schedule your interview following that. Mainly it was a fit interview in making sure that they understood your motivation to join Peace Corps as well as your maturity on dealing with Peace Corps life. It was an hour long phone interview in which you talk to a Peace Corps recruiter regarding a specific placement.

    Peace Corps Volunteer Interview

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 8+ months. I interviewed at Peace Corps in March 2012.

    Interview

Tedious but relatively Painless. They recently updated it, so it could be shorter/less mysterious. At the time, one applied to Peace Corps as a whole and they assigned you where they felt you would best serve. Now you apply directly to positions within Peace Corps. This takes some of the fun out of it, but it does make it more useful (and faster!)

    Peace Corps Volunteer Interview

    Anonymous Employee in Washington, DC
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 12+ months. I interviewed at Peace Corps (Washington, DC) in March 2012.

    Interview

It was really pleasant, and felt more like a conversation than an interview. The interviewer was supportive and enthusiastic and excited to share his own experience in Peace Corps. He tried to give me the widest range of volunteer opportunities options as possible by expanding the skill set listed on the original application. Overall, the interview itself made me feel very comfortable with the whole process, though it took a very long time to get from application to interview to departure.

    Interview Questions

    Negotiation

I was able to negotiate my departure date, but the rule was changed shortly afterwards to prohibit that practice from continuing. All other aspects of the job are non-negotiable.
