I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Petco in Apr 2010
Interview
District manager called me and I went to the store at time and date given. Spoke with General Manager, District Manager for about 10 Minutes. Was asked to go on the floor and ask 3 employees whether they had pets if so, how many and report back to office. I was called two days later and given start date and time. Dist. mgr was very nice at first glance, but turned out to be rather inflexible and very picky about tiny little things.

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Petco (Lake Geneva, WI) in Jul 2020
Interview
Little to no job experience needed. As long as you’re willing to put in the work they’ll hire almost anyone. You have to have open availability and be okay working nights and weekends

Question 1
What is your availability? Can you work nights and weekends?
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Petco (Killeen, TX) in Dec 2018
Interview
The interview was fairly informal. I was directed to the office, shook hands, asked to take a seat. Upon sitting down we had a discussion for about 30 minutes with questions and job requirements and then it was over.

Question 1
The main questions circled around "What is your interest in this position?"
Typical, textbook questions...no suprises. Interviewer didn't ask much about past experience, more about "what would you do in this scenario" type questions. Was interrupted multiple times during interview by store associates. I highly suggest preparing yourself by going to company website. There is a ton of good info that you can bring up during your interview.
