    Software Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Draper, UT

    Neutral Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ months. I interviewed at Proofpoint (Draper, UT) in April 2017.

    Interview

This was about a 2-3 month process. First I talked to the recruitment team on campus in February, was notified mid-March that I was selected to take a coding challenge. I took the challenge and did well enough to get an interview (was notified 3 weeks after submitting the program).

In the interview (which lasted 3 hours) the first hour or so was spent reviewing the code I wrote and how it could be improved. The main focus was to see if I could spot the problem areas and say how to improve them myself.

The next hour was a technical coding question based on designing an algorithm.

Finally, we talked about what I would be doing if I was selected. I was told I was in the top 2 of interviewees up to that point with a week of interviewing left.

A month later I was told I was edged out by a few candidates interviewed that week.

    Software Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Pittsburgh, PA
    Declined Offer
    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Proofpoint (Pittsburgh, PA) in October 2018.

    Interview

TLDR: after interviewing with 12(!) people on 3 seperate days they ghosted me, not rejected, just stopped answering emails.

I was contacted by wombat about a remote developer position. I had a phone screen with a team leader, and was immediately invited to a full interview. The interview consisted of 6 rounds of panels from various teams, including some that had almost no relation to the position I applied for. In all I spent more than 7 hours interviewing with various people around the company over 3 days. I was told I would hear back with a decision within 10 days. For a month I followed up every week, and was told that no decision had been made. After that, my HR contact just disappeared from the face of the earth, no read receipts from e-mails, nothing. I never said anything rude, and even had other's review my emails to make sure that I wasn't being aggressive or pushy.

I get it if they don't want to hire me, but using that much of my time, and then not having the courtesy to copy and paste a form rejection email speaks volumes about how they value people at Wombat/Proofpoint

    Interview Questions

    • They didn't do any 'whiteboard' style questions, they all centered around prior experience and things I had built in the past.   Answer Question

I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Proofpoint (Sunnyvale, CA) in April 2019.

    Interview

Applied online. Got an email a couple months after moving forward with process, had a phone screen with director. Mainly behavioral questions. A couple weeks after that had an onsite, technical interview with questions on resume experiences and general engineering principles/data structures/algorithms/SQL. Received an offer a couple weeks after that. Overall, had a good experience, recruiter was very good communication-wise and helped speed up process. Offer was below what I was expecting for this role so went with a different offer.

    Interview

30 minute phone screen with the manager of the role, followed by an on-site interview conducted by a series of three interviewers. Had an extremely positive experience throughout. The manager demonstrated a willingness to mentor and offer resources or help, even if I weren't to get an offer. All interviewers were engaging and were easy to work with. They provided feedback on the spot on the validity of my answers as well as gave me tips for improvement.
