Interview
Submit your resume and cover letter online and answer a series of questions regarding your knowledge of equipment.
If you pass the aforementioned part you will then be called. During this phone interview they will ask you why you want to work at REI. Next step, group interview.
The group interview tests is to see how you interact with others and to test your customer service skills. They do this by a series of exercises.
Exercise 1: "ice breaker"
Name, favorite outdoor hobby, why do you want to work at REI.
Exercise 2: (In groups) what does good customer service mean to you?
Answers: Friendly--> say hello when people come in the door
Make sure to be available to the customer. Fast and easy checkout. Knowledgeable, no pressure, sincere.
Exercise 3: Build your ideal tent in a team
Exercise 4: sell an item to a customer.
They want you to talk about it from experience. Read the label

Pretty quick and simple interview process for such a big company. Everyone seemed nice that I spoke to over the phone but for the most part the interview was all online. Just answering questions and recording your answers.

Your normal mid level job assessment, and questions. Make sure you have hiking, or some outdoor activity on your mind. They want to make sure you know about who they are, and what they sell.
I did an online interview first. I filmed myself answering a few questions. They called me in a few weeks later for an in person interview. Very standard interview questions, got hired on the spot
