    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Research Foundation of State University New York.

    Interview

Phone interview then in-person interview. I only met with the PI and his graduate students, therefore the whole interview process was based on how he conducted it. I didn't have to deal with standard interview questions from administrators. I clicked well with the PI from the start, which made the whole process smooth.

    Interview Questions

    • Asked about past laboratory experiences. Really straight-forward. This will be different though depending on the PI.   Answer Question

    Interview

Met advisor who needed work I was qualified for. We met one on one and he facilitated the applicaiton process. Standard college application procedure. Additionally one needs to pass a written exam to advance to the PhD level. This is standard at graduate schools. Here the test is difficult in the sense that they cover a large breadth, but don't go very deep. Which makes studying tricky as its largely memorization, and not a great metric of what makes a good researcher in my opinion.

    Interview

Were asked to take qualifier exams. Depending on performance and research interests were asked to talk to professors. Join the research group if it is a match. This was bit of a challenge as a student was required to understand high level research, which is of course, expected out of a Ph.D.
