Average Interview

Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Santa Cruz Biotechnology (Santa Cruz, CA) in May 2015.

Interview

I applied for this position online. There was an initial phone screening in which I spoke with the manager of the lab I applied to. We then scheduled an on-site interview. I interviewed with that manager as well as a manager of another department. Lastly, there was a group interview with some of the employees who later were my coworkers. The interview was fairly friendly and I was asked about previous experience and basic skills and techniques related to the field.

Interview Questions

  • Tell me about your experience working in xxx lab (previous college research experience listed on my resume)   Answer Question

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Santa Cruz Biotechnology in June 2012.

    Interview

Fairly fluid. May or may not have a phone interview before meeting in person, I did, others did not. The real interview is fairly low key and not as rigorous as one might expect. Will mostly ask you about past experience, for me not much, and just try to gauge who you are as a person.

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Santa Cruz Biotechnology (Paso Robles, CA) in May 2008.

    Interview

Interview was a piece of cake. I was interviewed by 4 different people (2 HR personals and 2 supervisors). All they asked was what was your favorite class, what I did at my past jobs, am I willing to work long hours, what qualities can you bring to the company. No scientific questions. Even they were stumped when you ask them questions about scientific questions. My buddy asked about a mass spectrometer questions on how they can tell if large/small proteins can get separated. They gave him a blank stare and diverted the question saying it wasn't their department, even though the supervisors have master's, they do not have a clue about anything scientific. No tests are given.

    Interview Questions

    • None. They were all easy. Trust me, if your breathing, have working limbs, then your hired. DO NOT TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE GOING TO GRAD SCHOOL OR JUST STAYING FOR A YEAR OR LESS. THEY WILL NOT CONSIDER YOU.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

    Negotiated with poor pay.
