Bank Teller Interview

Anonymous Employee in Reading, PA
Accepted Offer
Negative Experience
Difficult Interview

Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Santander (Reading, PA) in July 2014.

Interview

Long, arduous and detailed.

Spent an inordinate amount of money on FBI background, printing at UPS, travel, and then food. Their process lasted longer than the job, which ended during training due to the predatory and nasty power trips of 18 year olds with their first job.

Interview Questions

  • They asked me why I did not want direct deposit upon hire. I don't have any bank accounts.   1 Answer

Negotiation

I did not negotiate, I just took the offer. I also got fired during training because a group of 18 year old girls got verbally abusive and nasty and I reported it to HR. That ended the whole process.

I have about enough money in wages to cover what I had to spend to get a job babysitting brats who have 0 experience. There was 1 girl with her first job, 1 with 2 other jobs, another who worked for a pizza place.

I expected a mature work environment with experienced financial people, not a daycare center.

One word from another person means immediate termination, and the cameras don't exist where it matters.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Santander (Harrisburg, PA) in May 2011.

    Interview

I received a Phone interview from HR first to discuss my interest and qualifications for the position as I had no experience in the banking industry. I received a date/time at the end of the phone interview to be interviewed by Branch Manager and Head Teller of the bank. The day of the interview I was interviewed 1:1 with Branch Manager and then 1:1 with Head Teller. They then both came back to ask me a series of character questions and why I was interested in banking opportunities with Sovereign/Santander. They offered me a job and said I would recieve information from HR about training and orientation.

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Santander (Edgartown, MA) in June 2014.

    Interview

Applied and went to the branch the following week and and was interviewed on the spot. He asked me a couple of questions about myself then asked why i would like to work there. He asked about my availability and experience. i didn't have that much experience but i am a business finance major so that helped out a lot. My advice is to just be yourself and don't make anything up and you should be fine. i think if you don't get the job you really didn't deserve it or you weren't qualifiesd

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Santander.

    Interview

I was a referral from an employee who works at the bank. Set up an interview on the phone and then went in for the in-person interview with the branch manager. Very straightforward. The branch manager wanted to get to know me. My most important piece of advice. Tell them all about how you are good in sales and you can bring them a ton of customer referrals because they will love that stuff. Prior retail or sales experience is a plus.

    Interview Questions

    • Nothing too difficult or unexpected. They may ask you about your cash handling experience as well as your customer service experience.   1 Answer

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Santander in May 2016.

    Interview

I didn't even get an interview because of the online assessment that they make you take. I just don't think that it is fair to base an interview off an assessment that is mainly opinion. Does that mean I have to lie just to get an interview? I have the qualifications that they asked, but because of a failed assessment I have to wait 6 months just to even apply again. What a waste of 30 mins.

The brief phone interview I did have was ok to say the least.
