MWD Field Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Oklahoma City, OK
Declined Offer
Neutral Experience
Easy Interview

Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took a week. I interviewed at Schlumberger (Oklahoma City, OK) in January 2016.

Interview

Was through a 3rd party contracting company. There were many forms to fill out via email and printing and signing, and scanning and resending. Could have been made simpler with more forms that can be filled out electronically.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took a week. I interviewed at Schlumberger (San Antonio, TX) in November 2012.

    Interview

Asked mostly common behavioral questions. Ex) Tell me a little about yourself, what are your strengths and weaknesses, tell me a time you had to fight through adversity. Overall the interview process was 30-40 min long and they ask you questions from a series of written questions. They barely made eye contact as they were too busy writing down your answer into their computer

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Schlumberger (Midland, TX) in October 2012.

    Interview

The recruiters held an info session at my university. They held the first round-interviews on campus the following day. It took about two weeks for them to send an invitation to a second interview where they fly you out to one of their field office locations. You will have to do a presentation on one of their segments. I got an offer two weeks after the second interview.

    Interview Questions

    • How many apples do you need to stack in order to reach the height of the Eiffel Tower? They were really just looking to see if you would get flustered in my opinion.   Answer Question
    • Would you be okay with the lifestyle (they give you a brief description of how the schedule works in each specific segment, the crew size, etc)   Answer Question
    • Other generic questions about working in groups/as a team   Answer Question

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Schlumberger (Shreveport, LA) in October 2011.

    Interview

Schlumberger has a very good hiring and interview process. I first met Schlumberger at a career fair where I gave them my resume. I was then contacted about an info session and a interview. The first interview was a basic interview, looking over the resume and asking about my qualifications and my lifestyle to see if I was a fit for the company. A few weeks later I was contacted about a second interview which was in location near a field site. They flew me down to the interview which was a 3 day interview. They went over the job, all the specifications about the job. They have many team building exercises to see how you work in a team and to evaluate your leadership skills. It is important to ask questions and be interested in the job as this is how they pick the candidates to give offers to. They put you in groups to do presentations and then you are given the oppurtunity to pick which field within Schlumberger you would like to go into. They also take you to a real field site, mine happened to be Fracking, where it is also important to ask questions about the job. ASK QUESTIONS!! Once the process is all complete, you do a quick exit interview and then go out to dinner for the last part of the night.

    Interview Questions

    • The recruiters will have you do a exercise such as building a device, mine was to build a catapult from misc parts. It is not so much about success as it is to see how you interact with the team. Don't be a shine light hog, but rather be a leader, suggest ideas but also let other people do the same. They are looking for leaders not managers.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

I accepted the offer as is as there is no negotiation for a Field Engineer Trainee
