Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Skyline Technology Solutions (Glen Burnie, MD).

Interview

Skyline puts a huge emphasis on their hiring process. The interview process is long, but is generally comprised of three parts, each meant to test or look for certain characteristics.

1. "Cultural" interview - This is essentially just an ice breaker, a chance for the interviewers an the interviewee to get to know each other. Typically, this is spent just trying to get the interview candidate to calm down and turn the atmosphere more into a conversation rather than a formalized interview process. Often times, they will try to see if the interview candidate is particularly enthusiastic about any technology topics, whether they have any hobbies or interests that might signal strong ability to self-motivate or a stubbornness in fighting issues. Generally, the only way to "fail" this section is by being unable to relax and get out of the formal interview mindset or by showing huge lack of motivation or combative/other extremely negative signs.

2. "Technical" interview - The "standard" interview. Figure out what you know, what you would do when you don't know, how to respond to unusual situations, etc.

3. Repeats - Typically this is where you are either given an offer letter or you may be asked to do a bit of research/reading before coming in for another interview. Usually this happens when you see like you are well-motivated and mostly a good fit for a position, but would require a bit more training that a normally accepted candidate.
