    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Synpulse Management Consulting (New York, NY) in November 2013.

    Interview

Interview process was fairly straightforward. The overall process was very efficient. From start to offer, it probably took around a month and a half. There were three rounds: telephone, one in-person with a manager or associate partner, and then a final in-person with a partner. There was a mini-case, but the firm looked more for soft skills e.g. communication, and how you think / structure your arguments.

    Associate Consultant Interview

    Declined Offer
    Positive Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Synpulse Management Consulting.

    Interview

4 stages of interview, first 2 rounds were with junior consultants asking mostly about you and your experience, what you know about consulting and private banking. Expect 1 to 2 market sizing questions. 3rd round was with a manager/associate partner grade interview who would be harsher than the previous 2. Expect 2 to 3 market sizing questions and be ready to defend your assumptions and answers. Closing round with the partner in the same format but might be more unconventional as they might test areas where they did not test you previously such as your communication skills and ability to think on the spot.

Overall a pleasant experience, despite being a boutique, they take recruiting seriously; have seen people with stellar grades get cut at the first round due to fit. Interviewers were open to giving feedback and answering questions honestly.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Synpulse Management Consulting (Hong Kong (Hong Kong)) in February 2016.

    Interview

1st round - phone interview; 2nd round - manager; 3rd round - vice partner. the 2nd and 3rd round are both just talking, no case study. The interview with manager took about 1.5 hours and the one with VP was scheduled to be 1 hour but actually just took 20 mins.

    Associate Consultant Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Singapore (Singapore)
    No Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Synpulse Management Consulting (Singapore (Singapore)).

    Interview

The interview has four stages. Stage one is a phone screening with an associate consultant. Stage two is an onsite interview with a senior consultant. Stage three and four are with associate partner and partner. The first two stages are relatively easy. They only asked some market sizing questions and basic resume questions. The last two stages are difficult. They may ask questions about your knowledge of the company or consultants like "Do you know the name of your previous interviewers?" and "Do you know XXX (which is a system they developed for operational excellence)". Also, the third stage involved a presentation, which is said to be 10 min but the interviewer may adjust the time based on his impression on you. If you really want to get a job in Synpulse, I would suggest that you should have a comprehensive research about this company and what they are proud of.

    Interview Questions

    • How many words are there in a newspaper?   Answer Question
    • How many wines does Singapore consume each year?   Answer Question
    • How many flights (including taking off and landing) are in Changi Airport every day?   Answer Question

    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Synpulse Management Consulting (Singapore (Singapore)).

    Interview

The phone interview went well and they asked the usual questions such as "Can you tell me about yourself" as well as a teaser question on how I would go about counting the number of petrol stations in the country. I was then promptly invited for the 1:1 interview.

The 1:1 interview went terrible. After stumbling across two technical questions about the banking industry, the interviewer showed a complete lack of interest. While I was answering some of his questions, he would check his smartphone, laugh at messages and overall show lack of respect. The interview still went on to last roughly 1 hour after which the interview was ended very abruptly by the interviewer by him pushing me out of the door and telling me he would get in touch with me.

Two weeks later, not having heard back from them, I called HR and asked for an update. HR told me that he had not gotten back to them and he must have forgotten about me. Half an hour later I had an rejection e-mail in my inbox.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5+ months. I interviewed at Synpulse Management Consulting in January 2017.

    Interview

very long for no reasons. 4-5months. They made me come to Singapore for a job in Hong Kong. I never got reimbursed for the flight. They look for IT specialist. If they were looking for Tech specialist, why did they even offer me a first interview? The company is a little sketchy about their Hong Kong office. Such a waste of time!
