Technical Support Specialist Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Seattle, WA
No Offer
Positive Experience
Difficult Interview

Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Seattle, WA) in December 2015.

Interview

It was an open session with multiple stages for the entire interview. There was food and drink offered since the whole process lasts up to three hours long. There was a background information bit at the beginning, written portion, technical test, cultural interview, troubleshooting test, and finally a more traditional interview. Everyone was very friendly, casual and accommodating. We were kept, usually in groups, in meeting rooms in between interview sessions.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Seattle, WA) in June 2015.

    Interview

I submitted an application online for an open interview, about 2 - 3 weeks later as expected I received a reply from recruiting and scheduled the interview online. Onsite I did a basic fact check interview, a communication skills test, a panel interview, a troubleshooting interview, and a rapid-fire knowledge test. The process was @ 3.5 hours, fast-paced but enjoyable.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Seattle, WA) in March 2015.

    Interview

One word: Gaunlet. But fun! I promise. Hiring for Support, when I was there, was typically done in large groups. It went something like this: I was checked in and I underwent a brief screening to verify employment details. My past experiences, education, and what not. I was then led to a large conference room with beverages and light snacks. A senior employer would stay in this room with us this whole time and play random videos. Definitely meant to emphasize the funny-and-weird culture of Support. I was periodically called out of the room for other topical interviews. I went through a cultural interview wherein I was asked how I dealt with people, responded to anger or upset people, and general "are you an actual nice human being" questions. I also underwent two technical interviews. The first of which was the classic whiteboard interview. The other was a quickfire technical quiz. I was honest when I did not know answers and asked to be walked through the solutions I did not know. Interviewers seemed pleased.

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Seattle, WA).

    Interview

Felt like a quick process. I made initial contact at a campus job fair and they were doing background checks in two weeks with an offer by the third week. (yes, they will in fact contact your references)
I thoroughly enjoyed the interview process and felt a great connection to the team. I especially appreciated the managers' thoughts on team-building and career progression.
I would certainly recommend that a friend interview here.

    Interview Questions

    • There weren't really any unexpected questions, just a broad spectrum due to the nature of tech support. I know it's been said before but you definitely need to download the free copy of the software and muck around with it a bit before your interview.   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

I ultimately turned down the offer because the job is at the edge of the core work that I'd like to do and multiple other opportunities have come up.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Dublin, Co. Dublin (Ireland)).

    Interview

The interview process was standard, first I had a pre-screening call with an HR manager, then a couple of technical calls and an in-house interview.
After my pre-screening call I had two technical calls with their support team members, which were very enjoyable. They presented a problem which I had to resolve with them over Skype. The in-house interview was much shorter than expected, and after that I was supposed to have the last interview. Unfortunately, I was forced to relocate due to financial problems, which is why I didn't complete the interview process,.

    Interview Questions

    • Didn't have much unexpected questions, only one "test" where I had to submit finished exercises done in Tableau.   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

    Declined due to relocation.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Tableau Software in May 2012.

    Interview

I had sent in an application online for their Technical Support Specialist position. Within two days I received an email back wanting to set a time for a phone interview.

When the time came for the recruiter to call me for my phone interview she was 15 minutes late to our phone interview. From that point on the interview felt really rushed and that I was just another person to get through.

The interview questions were based on three areas: networking, databases, and analytical/math questions.

Unfortunately after answering these questions the recruiter told me that I am not a competitive candidate for the job.
