    Deli Clerk Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at The Fresh Market (Evansville, IN) in January 2016.

    Interview

I applied online for a different position: coffee/candy specialist due to my experience as a barista. They called a few days later to invite me in for an interview. The first real question asked of me was about pay. I told the assistant manager that the average seemed to be about $11 for that position, and she said they start everyone at $10 an hour. I agreed and she asked about my experience and then-current job. She told me the openings were more likely to be in deli, meat, or seafood and asked if I was still interested. I just needed a full-time job and wanted to work for TFM, so I agreed. She got the general manager and we continued. He hadn't looked at my resume yet, so I reiterated everything said before. He knew my boss at the time, so we really talked more about that than about me. He agreed that deli was probably where the most hours are, but he did say that it would have to start as a part-time position. The deli manager came out, and we chatted. She asked what I liked about TFM and if I shopped there, what my favorite products were, etc. For most of the half hour, we all just chatted and laughed. Very casual, easy interview despite meeting 3 managers and being caught off guard by that. They all walked away at the end to talk privately and came back to offer me the job. I had an email waiting when I got home for the background check. That took a day or two, and then I filled out paperwork online. I came into the store on a Friday to do the last of my employment onboarding, and I started on Monday with 40 hours.

    Negotiation

The bottom they pay is 8 or 9, I think. Look at GlassDoor for salaries and stay in that ballpark. Don't be afraid to suggest whatever seems to be the average, even if it seems high to you for the work involved. As long as you're flexible, they aren't going to lowball you.

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at The Fresh Market (Panama City, FL) in October 2015.

    Interview

It was so easy seriously, this was my very first job so I was really nervous before I went in. I was even practicing lines before I went in. I came in and told them I was here for an interview and waiting in the sitting area for the manager. When she came in she didn't ask any questions we mainly talked about my availability and what salary I would want. After she wrote down some notes she offered me a job right there. No situational questions and I love working there.

    Negotiation

No negotiation, I told her I would work minimal wage and she had me down for 9:hr
