The use of the words "broken" and "fix" indicate an older individual more used to paper calendars. I would use that knowledge to bridge the comprehension gap and ask in appropriate non-techie language questions, calm them down and solve /"fix" the problem. This cannot be done until the 'client' is reassured and calms down. Only when this and a common language is established, can a "fix" be found.
