Difficult Interview

Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at U.S. Food and Drug Administration (Akron, OH) in September 2014.

Interview

Professional and organized phone interviews. Lasted about 1.5 hours and involved questions about my research and expertise. They were engaging and communicative, and curious about my work. They also took care to learn more about me as an individual, and what my work balance and work expectations are.

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at U.S. Food and Drug Administration (Washington, DC) in April 2014.

    Interview

Applied during graduate school and was interviewed by phone with my direct supervisor. Hired shortly within two weeks informally, the real application process took a long long time. There is a lot of paperwork involved in any government process and you have to just get used to all the bureaucracy. Go through background check and provide your detailed past 10 year history of living address, employment, travel, etc.

Summer intern position related to computer science. On-site interview after a standard technical questionnaire. Two interviewers. After one behavioral question, they directly went to technical questions. They wrote questions on whiteboard and asked me how to solve these. I answered most of the questions they asked, some with hints provided by them. If you don't know how to solve the questions, you can ask for hints. They are very helpful.

    Interview

Very small group (3) for a 1 hour interview. Very punctual and on-point. Started With a description of the FDA heirarchy and moved through to the particulars of the job. I was asked several generic questions about my CV, Resume and how I would approach various situations. Overall, it was very professionally done, but nothing shocking or surprising (no left-field questions)

Very casual hiring/interview process. Mostly through networking and recommendation rather than job hunting. A simple phone interview is all that was needed for me.

    Negotiation

I was able to negotiate a starting date that was more than 6 months away from the interview date. For most companies this would be impossible. But it worked here.
