I applied through other source. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Union Pacific (Omaha, NE) in Feb 2009
Interview
Interview process is somewhat extended. Employees are first sourced through a recruiting session or apply online. If selected for the next round, candidates are brought in and given a series of tests--Operations Management Battery Test--which is essentially some technical/math/reading comprehension key indicators. A personality test is also given to see if you are the right fit for the position. Afterwards you are interviewed one-on-one to screen out any other candidates. Folllowing, you will be contacted and requested to interview will some "higher ups" --from there the interview process is highly varied, but focuses on your intentions, hypotheticals, and background.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The hypotheticals bother me---there was a bit of role playing and you'll spend more time answer how you think they want the scenario addressed instead of being natural. It's more of an intimidation routine to see if you hold up. I thought I bombed mine, but I was offered a position.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Union Pacific in Nov 2021
Interview
1) Take 2 online exams (1 personality, 1 logical) Which took a couple hours and was timed. These were medium difficulty, be sure to take your time on these.
2) A virtual 1-on-1 with a Senior Recruiter asking scenario questions in STAR format. They decide within a few days whether you move on to the second interview. approx. 30 mins
3) A virtual 3-on-1 panel interview with hiring manager and a facility manager that dig into leadership and scenario questions. STAR format. approx. 30 mins
Next, within a week you receive a formal offer.
Finally, the background check and medical exam. (Whole process took about 1 month from application to offer)
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Union Pacific (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2021
Interview
The whole process involved 3 major steps: the aptitude test, the first round interview, and the second round interview. The aptitude test wasn't difficult, it mostly tested logic and people skills. The first interview was very conversational and I was able to ask lots of questions. The second round interview was a bit more panel styled, so I was answering questions from 3 different people. They were mostly about my experiences in leadership and in past working experiences.
