What would you do if you promised a customer something by

  noon, and your supervisor then called for a noon staff meeting at 11:50 am?

The customer always comes first. I would rearrange things to make sure the customers needs could be met by an earlier time. I would contact the customer and let them know that we are fortunate enough to have their needs met at that earlier time because their needs are my priority. If the customer was available at an earlier time then arrangements would be made to deliver early. If not, I would let them know the name of someone I was entrusting to deliver the promise. Communication is the key for everything. Your supervisor should also always be interested in stellar customer service and should not be upset if you are a little late to a meeting.
