I'd empathize with the customer, perhaps relating to a game that I've been playing and how devastated I'd be if data had been lost. I'd explain that I would be unable to retrieve the data, but suggest they follow up with the app designer. I'd walk them through finding the information on their app (usually there is some contact info in settings) and encourage them to contact the developer. It is possible that others are experiencing the same issue and the developer is already working on a fix.
