I'm not sure you get to pick your training class. United hasn't had one in a few months and they're still not sure when the next classes will be (next fall or spring)
I'd say you can use a situation where things could've gone differently but the outcome wasn't as bad but could've been much better. It doesn't have to be something terrible that you did. It shows that you're able to analyze and re-evaluate the situations. It depends on your experience/work history, I'm sure you can think of something ;)
Hi guys! I applied for the bilingual FA and I just scheduled my F2F interview. I have a few questions since I've read mixed comments and just want to prepare: 1. How is the language test administered? 2. Do they test you during your F2F interview or during training? 3. If you don't pass the language assessment, are you automatically disqualified or will they consider keeping you? 4. What is the language test like? What does it consist of (oral, written, etc.)? Hi Marianne, Congratulations on your face to face interview! You take the language test the same day you're interviewed, so first they do a presentation of the company, F2F (one on one) and then language test. I have detailed my experience here so you may go through it again if you will. For the language test, you go to the exam room, you're given a textbook and you have to call their language specialist and then he/she starts by introducing himself/herself and you have to say your name and confirm you're taking the test for the specific language you applied (the only part of the whole test when you speak in English). Then you're asked to read a small text in the foreign language you speak (it'll be in the textbook, they have about 20 texts and 20 announcements, the assessor will let you know which one you have to read). I think it starts that way so they will have an idea of your proficiency level and take it from there. Then you're asked about 25 questions and also you have to read an announcement out loud. The questions range from personal questions (how you were raised and what you like about your city and why) to customer service (if an airplane is about to make an emergency landing, give an example of what your announcement should sound like to assure customers aren't extremely anxious), aviation industry specific questions (if someone won't shut down their computers or set to airplane mode, what would you do?) and normal daily activities questions (do you like movies/what type of movies/explain why you like that kind of movies). For each question, the assessor will continue inquiring and looking for details about your answer so you can elaborate more and explain with different words. Don't leave too much of a blank space and don't just answer the way you do with your friends. Do it professionally the same way you would if you're interviewing for this position in the country where the language is spoken. Just being bilingual isn't enough, you have to be professional. At the end, they thank you for your time and you hang up. A United recruiter will come and take you to the shuttle back to the airport. They usually say that the results will be ready in 7 days. You don't get to know your score, only if you passed or not. To be considered for the position you have to pass with a native proficiency level. It's written in the paper they give you for the exam that if you're scheduled for the test and don't take it, or don't score with native level you can be terminated or have disciplinary actions taken into place (for current employees). It's harsh and I'm not sure if they actually do it but I think it's a way to avoid people who just want to try and take the test without being a bilingual, I imagine they pay you to go to the test and they pay the vendor to assess you. So Intermediate/basic doesn't qualify you as bilingual. Right now they're hiring only bilinguals who can demonstrate they have the ability to communicate clearly and understand conversations in the languages they need. I can't say whether they keep candidates who fail the exam but it's not a bad idea to ask them there so long you're already there interviewing with them. I'd like to think they will give you another chance but you won't know if you don't ask them. The test isn't hard if you're bilingual but I can't think of someone with intermediate level passing it. You're supposed to give clear and concise answers to situations that might arise during a flight such as medical emergencies (you better know the medical vocabulary for things like CPR and such), I think it helps if you have a sophisticated vocabulary to show that you can represent the company's image especially with high profile customers. Some bilinguals who learn a second language at home with their parents could practice by reading books in the foreign language (if it's aviation industry related even better so you can improve your vocabulary as there will be many questions in that area). Hey, have you heard anything yet? I just did my German video assessment today. Felt kinda rushed since we don't even get a minute to answer. Do you know if they send the invitation automatically to all bilingual people or only to those they liked in the first video?
I have not heard back yet. I assume they only send you access to this part if you passed the first batch of questions. Since the class they're hiring for isn't until January, I'm assuming it will take until the end of the year to complete the process and receive an offer (a couple more months at this point).
Yeah, I assumed and hoped that too. I don't think I did too well in either video interview though. But who knows what they are looking for... Hope we will hear from them soon.
I did the same one for french, haven't heard anything yet. I do have a friend that already has a scheduled interview, but not for bilingual. I wonder if bilingual scheduling will be next.
I just got an invitation to Atlanta towards the end of September! My friend said to try and remember the answers I provided for the video because the questions will be similar. I feel a bit more confident knowing I passed the first two bits. This will be my second in person interview with an airline (1st time with Delta) so I also feel more confident this way too.

Hi! Do you mean our travel location? If so the answer is no, from what I understand you’ll end up on whatever route has an open LOD spot and if there isn’t one you end up flying domestic until there is. If you mean which hub you are assigned? That answer is idk. From what I’ve been told most airlines like you to be flexible and mobile. I’m currently open to moving to any city and working and route so I hope that works in my favor.

I was born in Brazil but I am an American citizen. No they don't hire people unless they have either a green card or are already citizens. Sorry!
This is from the job requirements: "Must possess and maintain a valid United States passport or foreign passport with applicable visas and eligibility to work in the United States." I heard major US airlines hire L-2 visa holders (Intracompany transferee, spouse visa) who have the Employment Authorization Document (EAD) which allows non-U.S. citizens and non-Green Card holders to work legally in the U.S. Does anyone know if United is accepting someone like this?

hi! my interview question (regarding my other language) was the same as everyone else who wrote on this thread. I was asked "what do you think your ability to speak a second language will do to help you in performing this job?" I haven´t seen even one bilingual question here that´s different from this one so I´d say that is the one to prepare for. good luck!!!

I don’t think she was being rood or “racism” she was asking you a understandable question. They need to know qualities that you possess that can be used on every flight not just with specific people.
She was not being rude. It’s not racism, Your answer didn’t make any sense 🤣🤣🤣 if I was her I would not hire you either 😆😆 but jokes apart I wish you all the best.
that's not racist ago. you gave her a scenario and she replied back with another...if you only logic to her follow up is racism, you are on the wrong spot.
